:: Best Black Jumpsuit + 2017 Travel Recap ::

Much like my-boyfriend-Andy-Cohen, I have never met a jumpsuit I didn’t like.
They’re my go-to for rehearsal dinners and it’s fun to change it up from an expected dress.
And this black jumpsuit stole my heart the moment I put it on.

:: Amsterdam Travel Guide ::

Whew.  Making this post almost made me cry because I loved this part of our trip so, so much.  We made such incredible memories and it made me miss Amsterdam so much already!

We landed in Amsterdam on a Saturday morning after an overnight direct flight from Atlanta, and we stayed through Wednesday morning (when we flew to Milan to meet up with Kip’s family for the Italian Wedding and Family Vacation).  You definitely do not need 4 days to see Amsterdam – we just didn’t want to do anything but relax and enjoy ourselves before 11 days with family, so we didn’t want to train anywhere or anything like that.

Since we were staying for a few days, we knew we wanted to do an Airbnb so that we would have more space and a spot to eat breakfast, etc.  I’m a big fan of Airbnb’s because when you are home between a full day of being out and about, and before heading back out for the night, you can have a fridge filled with Pinot Grigio and can grab something simple from the grocery store to eat at home for Cocktail Hour while you shower and get ready.  Or to just have a living room sofa to sit in and veg after a long day out.  Being stuck in only your hotel room makes that down-time part of the vacation feel like you could be right down the street from your house, but in the apartment you still fully feel on vacation mode.  I know it isn’t for everyone – but we love it.  I also love being able to make my own breakfast if I want, or for Kip to make his Coffee while he showers and gets ready, and to have space to spread all my crap out and get ready instead of being crammed into one tiny hotel room (especially in Europe where the hotel rooms can be teensy tiny).

When we did Venice-Siena-Florence-Rome-Amalfi Coast, we stayed in all hotels except for Rome and I think we made a good call with that.  We were going place to place to place for the first part of the trip, there are stunning hotels everywhere, etc.  So it definitely depends where you are going and how long you are staying there.

:: Where We Stayed ::
We stayed in the Jordaan neighborhood / Canal District which had come highly recommended by friends and readers.  This it the exact Airbnb we stayed in and we were super happy with the location and the space.

We booked our Amsterdam trip very late as a solo-addition to the family Italy trip, so a lot of the places we found were already booked.  So we lucked out getting this one because our options were dwindling by the hour when we were trying to find something.

But overall, Jordaan and the Canal District is where I would recommend staying and what was the overwhelming recommendation from others. We just loved the neighborhood.

:: Travel Tip ::
It’s not necessary to pay for daily wifi when abroad, and we didn’t when we did Italy two years ago, but we did pay for it this time and it was a huge help.  I have a killer sense of direction, but your first day somewhere it is all so confusing and there are so many teeny tiny little streets everywhere!

I just saved restaurants/places/etc under Favorites on my iPhone Map (just heart the location) and then it keeps all of them stored for you.  Having this map with everything stored in it was a HUGE help.

:: What We Did ::

Anne Frank Museum – an absolute must.  They sell tickets online for designated times two months in advance.  Do this! We booked about 5 weeks before leaving, so needless to say everything was all sold out. You will wait in long lines, but it’s a must and obviously an experience unlike anything else.

A Boat Tour on the Canals – I think this was our favorite thing that we did the whole trip. There are tons of different boats that you can hop on for an hour tour along all of the canals.  One boat (others boats will look like it, but they aren’t!) is 15 Euro for endless drinks during the one hour tour of the canals.  It was the most affordable, and beautiful, thing we did all week! You get an entirely different view and new way to experience the city when it is from the canals.  We actually ended up going TWICE during our four days there.  Don’t judge – it was great and cheap!  We loved our first one during the day, so we went back for happy hour before dinner another night and they actually went down different canals for part of it so it was a whole new experience with sunset and happy hour.  You can hop on Boat Amsterdam right in the Red Light District area.

Flower Market – The huge tulip fields that you see when picturing Amsterdam were not in bloom when we were there in July, but they have a flower market set up that you can walk through along the canal.  This is also a great place to stock up on any knick-knack’s and souvenirs, and of course to buy any flowers if you want to take buds home with you.  I got a vase and little ornament for our Christmas tree here, and a lot of the shops are all the same, but at the front and back there were some beautiful shops with gorgeous flowers.

Red Light District – Of course we spent a night in the Red Light District!  I was excited to see what all of it entailed because it’s just so crazy to wrap your head around!  We got a little boozed up (on our second boat tour for happy hour :D) and walked the streets.  It’s crazy.  Kip and I laughed our tushes off that night.  I don’t really know what else to say about it!  The highlight of my red light district experience was seeing an older gentleman (about 75) in a full suit come out of one door saying ‘Thank you, thank you so much, thank you” to the girl and then turn and take 5 steps directly to the other side of the street without even looking up and go straight to another door and open it to another gal.  And the other highlight was going to a bar after walking the streets and being there for TWO HOURS drinking before realizing we were in a gay bar.  (See….. those 15 Euro boat trips really give you your moneys worth).  It was one of the most fun nights of the entire two week trip, Italy included.

Coffee Shops – They are everywhere and they are an Amsterdam experience!

Vondelpark – We grabbed some croissants and drinks and walked through here while venturing to a different part of the city, De Pijp

We did a whole lot of nothing for four days and it was absolutely glorious.  Well, we did things…. but it was a lot of just walking (some days more than 20,000 steps!) and playing it by ear, which is the opposite of our action packed trip to Italy two years ago – so it felt that much better.  Amsterdam was so gorgeous when we were there, we really lucked out with the weather, and so other than seeing the Anne Frank Museum we just wanted to be outside.

Other recommendations from friends, and people who actually do things and don’t want to be lazily wandering  :
Van Gogh Museum
Rent Bikes – I was too terrified.  I almost got killed by the bikers when I was on two feet, so I decided biking would not be my best move.  I would definitely do it to bike out to the windmills or tulip fields or something, but not on the streets in town where we were!
Head out to the Windmills
Go to the Tulip Fields if you are there when they are in bloom.

:: Where We Ate ::

We had a bunch of great lunches and snacks just wandering the streets with whatever looked good to us, but here are a few specific places.  The food overall was great so you will have no problem finding options!

Kantjil de Tigre – I loved this meal so much.  It is an Indonesian restaurant and you basically get tons of different things on your place to sample.  It was spicy – I am a spice baby – but it was insanely delicious and fun change from anything I have ever had for dinner.  Completely understand why it was on so many lists!

The Pancake Bakery – We went here for late breakfast/lunch/brunch and absolutely loved it and we were lucky to snag outdoor table right on the canal. It seems touristy by the name, but it comes recommended by everyone and all the travel guides I read and it was a great easy and delicious meal! Kip got a savory pancake (cheese and something else) which savory seems different for pancakes but the waiter said the savory kind are what they are known for and his was AH-mazing.  I got a more traditional and loved it as well, but the savory was hands down the best!  Plus their coffee and espresso comes with a stroupwaffel so that was an added perk.

 Cafe de Jaren – We saw this corner when we were on the boat cruise and it had beautiful little restaurants with outdoor space right on the water.  Bord’Eau is a fancier place on the corner, but right next door is a beautiful outdoor garden and the perfect place for drinks (or food, we just didn’t eat!) and to watch the boats go by.  It’s right on the other side of this restaurant below.

Cafe Fontyn – this is a little bar right off the red light district in a cute little square.  We came here for cocktails before going out in the Red Light District for the night.

Stroupwaffel + French Fries – two things they are known for that are insanely delicious!

The Pulitzer – this came recommended from someone and it is a beautiful hotel that we snagged cocktails at one night

Kaaskamer – You’ll see cheese shops all over the place – they are adorable.  Worth a peek inside and to pick up some cheese to bring back to your place for when you’re getting ready for the night.

Cannible Royale – tried to make it to this one one night, but we were having a great time sitting outside a bar so just stayed and ate closer to our Airbnb, but this is recommended by lots and looks delicious and fun.

Balthazaar’s Keuken – This came recommended by readers, and was actually right next to our Airbnb.  I’m sure it is absolutely wonderful, but it wasn’t for us.  Other than sushi I am not a fish eater and pretty much everything in the set menu had seafood in it.  BUT I know others rave about it, so don’t take my word for it!

De Kas – this requires a taxi, and Kip didn’t want to venture far, so we opted out but this place looks amazing.

:: Vegas Vacation ::

February 7, 2017

:: Vegas Vacation ::
ceiling at the bellagio lobby.  I love walking through their lobby and The Wynn!

I hope you all had a great {superbowl} weekend!
We were in Las Vegas through Monday,
so now I am preparing to detox for the next few days!
big time.
It was such a fun trip – probably my most fun Vegas trip to date!!
We flew out at 8:30 Friday morning and WOW did everyone on our flight get after it.
Kip and myself not included.
It amazes me how much alcohol people can throw back before 9 AM!
Our flight ran out of vodka less than 2 hours in!
In all honesty it was truly impressive and made me feel bad about myself that theres no way I could ever do that for 4.5 hours and then get off the airplane at 10 AM local time ALIVE.
 The flight attendants made all of these pretzel crowns and sashes and were handing them out with bottles of champagne to people who had 21st and 30th birthdays.
Gotta love Southwest.
Kip had to go straight to the office from the airport,
so I went and got us checked in at The Cosmpolitan.
I had never stayed at The Cosmo and I absolutely LOVED it.
 Our room was super nice and very ….sexy is really the only way to say it?
I mean….. floor to ceiling mirrors in front of the beds and then a huge window to look into the shower (and so you can look out at the view from the shower….)
I  was very proud of myself for delaying an immediate cocktail and instead squeezed in a workout at the hotel while I waited for Anne and Alan’s flight to get in.
It was pretty much the last of my healthy choices, but at least I did it.
Then we met up and headed for some lunch!
// LACE SLEEVE PEASANT TOP // RAG AND BONE JEANS // TORY SANDALS //
We headed down to Holstein’s Burger Restaurant on the second floor.
It was insanely delicious.
They do these big boozy milkshakes that looked crazy good, but we just did burgers and some vino.
 Then Alan headed to work,
so Annie and I wandered around a little bit and went across the street to Planet Hollywood and in search of some shoes.
Right when we walked into the Casino, what do I see but this:
THE EARL OF SANDWICH!
Kip and I love Javier’s so we walked next door The Aria and sat at the bar for some steak fajitas and queso fundido, and some yummy Jalapeno margaritas.
// zara dress, old // aldo heels //
After dinner we met up with Anne and Alan after their work event.
Their room was this huge corner suite with a wrap around balcony on two sides.
It was INCREDIBLE.
I have never seen Vegas from a view like that!
We went out and painted the town and then hung out at the Chandelier Bar.

The next morning we recovered with breakfast from Eggslut on the balcony.
 let me tell you….. Eggslut is NO. JOKE.
this breakfast sandwich was heaven.
 We had some juice to help kick the hangover as well and then headed out to walk around the strip and do some shopping.
// REBECCA MINKOFF FLUTTER SLEEVE TOP //
My uber driver to the hotel had told me about a secret pizza place on the 3rd floor of The Cosmo.
It wasnt’ quite as secretive as I had thought – you can find the hallway fairly easily – but the pizza was incredible and a great quick + inexpensive meal or snack (or late night indulgence!)
Saturday night we headed over to Absinthe at Caesar’s Palace.
Absinthe is truly the greatest show I have ever seen.
It is insanely inappropriate humor – if you are easily offended, stay far FAR away.
We all laughed so hard that we cried.
On top of all of that, the acrobatics and the stunts/acts that they do are mind blowing.  They are all so talented and their bodies were insane.  I don’t know how they did the things that they were doing.
I can’t recommend the show enough!!
// BCBG JUMPSUIT, OLD // ZARA COLORBLOCK HEELS //
love This Black + White similar jumpsuit!
We went to The Foundation Room after for the night
AND GUESS WHO OUR BOTTLE SERVICE GIRL WAS.
So much for being a Doula???
She is much shorter in person than I would have thought and my sister is the one that actually recognized her right off the bat.
She looked a lot prettier in person too.
So it was a perfect “celeb” sighting for my Coffee-Talk-crazy-self.
The views from The Foundation Room are amazing!!
Sunday was game day!
I recommend China Poblano at The Cosmo for good casual bite too!
it’s a combination of Mexican and Chinese food and it makes no sense but we liked it.
I wore red + black for the game.
// FEATHER HEM TANK // WHITE JEANS //
 We parked up at The Henry bar in The Cosmo while Anne and Alan had a work party at STK.
The game obviously did not turn out as we had hoped, but we had a good time.
 We went to Milos for dinner later that night and hung out at The Chandelier Bar before crashing early.
By the 3rd night we all were kind of exhausted!!

Surprisngly I think I packed perfectly for the weekend.
Thank GOD I packed the Tory Burch Sandals last minute because my feet were so swollen and blistered that they were the only things I could wear during the day.
We did over 17,000 steps Friday and Saturday.  Lord.
I added another 2-3 tops than this, but keeping it all in the same color scheme made it very easy. It was actually the lightest my suitcase has ever been.

Off to detox…. barely made it through my spin class this AM : /
This week is going to be rough, but worth it!

:: Grand Cayman + Friday Favorites ::

January 13, 2017

:: Grand Cayman + Friday Favorites ::
I have gotten requests for some Grand Cayman recommendations
so I wanted to get around to posting some photos from our Christmas trip!

We went to the Caymans for the first time for Spring Break in 2004, and we have been going back ever since.  It has become a Christmas tradition and one that I hope never stops!
It is the perfect place for a family vacation because it is safe, small, gorgeous, and there are things to do but not a ton so it encourages beach time and lazy days.  From Atlanta it is a quick 2-2.5 hour flight and then a 5 minute taxi once you land.

When you stay on 7 Mile Beach everything is a quick couple minute cab – or hopefully walk – away.  We have started out in Condos, did a couple of years at the Marriott, and now have been back at the condos for 3 years.
My lunch service and cooler of mixed drinks and beer isn’t quite as nice as the bartender  mixing daiquiris and mimosas and a killer Lobster Roll and Fries….. but everything else we like 10x more with the condo!  I really miss that lobster roll though…

Other than a day or two for Stingray City (which is incredible and my absolute favorite) and some snorkeling/diving (I don’t dive, but it is supposed to be incredible here) or fishing,
last years sting ray city, this year was deep sea fishing (womp womp)
everything else is laid back beach or pool time.  My kind of vacation 🙂
Beach all day + amazing dinners out at night = Heaven for me.
After the photos I have listed the restaurants we usually go to!

NOTE :
Deep Sea Fishing is NOT greater than Stingray City.
The boys wanted to change it up a bit.  {still do Stingray City hands down!}

The boys went to this one random liquor store one day and they had 4 Loco (not pictured) and the Island Version of 4 Loco (pictured) called “Drink Like A Boss”
I tried Drink Like A Boss and it was absolutely repulsive!
Isn’t 4 Loco illegal in the US or something?

I even love the airport (well… the inside is tiny with not a single thing to do, but the outside is great).
You check in and check your bags, and then we eat lunch up at the restaurant and you watch the planes take off and land until your flight.  It’s a great last hour in the Caymans versus sitting inside the airport!

Grand Cayman has the BEST restaurants ever.
Truly.  Other than Italy, which is just entirely different, Grand Cayman has the best food I have ever had.
I’m not even a seafood person, and of course the seafood is a main highlight at the restaurants, and I have the best steaks, pastas, tuna appetizers, conch fritters, desserts, even Italian food!

We tend to go to the same restaurants over and over again.
There are too many to name that we always say we want to try because we hear such great things, but then we never want to miss out on the ones we love.
So, there hasn’t been anything new in a few years and we stick to a solid 6 or so.

Restaurant Recommendations :
Calypso

If there is one restaurant I recommend the most, it is Calypso.  It has gotten busy here and the tables can be tight if you are there in high season, but it is incredible.  The food never disappoints, and you cannot leave without getting the Sticky Toffee Pudding for Dessert.
It is insanely, insanely amazing.  The name doesn’t do it justice – it’s one of the best desserts I have ever had! I also got the pasta special this year which was a Gnocchi with Brown Butter and Sage, and I never order Gnocchi, and we went back a second night and I ordered it again.  CRACK at this restaurant I swear. It’s so good.

The Wharf

Right on you guessed it, The Wharf! This is another one of our favorites.
Right on the water, the little cove is filled with Tarpon which are these hideous fish that you do not eat, but they ring a bell and everyone gets to feed.
I don’t know why, but it’s thrilling?
Love their shrimp cocktail and their conch fritters too!

Eduardo’s
This isn’t on the water or anything, but the food is incredible.  Even the bread they put on the table tastes like something out of this world.
Their lasagna kills me and I burned my mouth this year because I couldn’t wait to devour every bite.
I didn’t see him this year, but a smokin’ hot Irish guy Sean always ran this and greeted us 🙂 So that was a little disappointing not seeing him…..

Decker’s

They do an all you can eat Lobster night which the boys love.
This is walking distance from Ritz and Westin.

Grand Old House

This is closer to Georgetown on the other End of 7 Mile Beach.
We used to eat here for Christmas every year.
It is a gorgeous old house right on the water so everything is beautiful.
Plus on the drive you pass the governors mansion with all of the Christmas Lights (I think it’s the governors? I can’t remember whose it is?) which is a fun Christmas highlight!

Papagallo

This is a fun restaurant, especially if you have kids.
It is one of the further restaurants on the opposite side of Georgetown in West Bay.
You can eat inside or out, and the inside has a beautiful large thatched roof.
The best part is they have all of these gorgeous birds so it’s a pretty atmosphere, and kids obviously love looking at the birds.

This list is by no means all encompassing.
There are many other incredible restaurants on the island and I can promise the food won’t disappoint!

:: FRIDAY FAVORITES ::
I have been really feeling the ruffles and sleeves this week.
Ever since I got this top, I’ve been embracing it more and more. I
It’s back in stock in ALL sizes HERE.

But not all Ruffles are created equal.
I’ve rounded up 5 Different Ways to wear the Ruffle :
all under $100, most under $50 !

1. This tee is perfect for everyday, casual wear.
2. A great long sleeved option, with just a tiny bit of detail.
3. My favorite! This color would look so incredible with white jeans.
4. Adorable shoulder detailing.
5. Not exactly a ruffle, but a perfect bell sleeved top with the cutest bow tie back.
Oh! And this bell sleeve top that keeps selling out is fully restocked in all colors!

Sorry if the spacing keeps showing up strangely, it looks normal in the editor and then wacky when I publish it.
CHEERS to the WEEKEND!

WE’RE OFF TO THE CAYMANS! Mele Kalikimaka!

We are off for our annual family Christmas trip and I couldn’t be more excited.

I’ll be stopping in with a few posts *hopefully* in between cocktails on the beach,

but wishing you + yours a very merry early Christmas!

photos from a few years ago, when we chartered a boat and were the first ones out to Stingray City and got them practically all to ourselves!

all of those dark shadows above are the stingrays

It’s one of my favorite things to do and it never, ever gets old.

This year the boys wanted to charter a deep sea fishing boat instead…..and I don’t think I get to swim with these little (big) angels so I’m a little sad.

I’ll be instagramming daily! For once 🙂

:: gift guide : for the traveler ::

December 6, 2016

:: gift guide : for the traveler ::
Today I am sharing another gift guide for the holidays,
this time focusing on gifts for the traveler!

In the past couple years, I feel like I have traveled a crazy amount.  For someone who doesn’t travel for work, I am always at the airport + on an airplace.  First it was weddings and bachelor/bachelorette parties, and then I was flying back and forth from Chicago to Atlanta to see family, and now friends are scattered across the country from me and I’m lucky enough to use any excuse to hop on a plane.
Having a Companion Pass and traveling for free with my husband has also added to the increase in traveling.
Thank you Southwest 🙂 I heart you.
I’m on airplanes far too often and I did extensive planning for our long flight for Italy, so take a look at some great gifts below for the frequent flier or for anyone who just wants to pack a little smarter for a vacation!
 a lot of these are the perfect stocking stuffer size and price!

:: GIFT GUIDE FOR THE TRAVELER ::

MASON TRAVEL BAG : you know I am obsessed with this thing.  and I will never stop recommending it. ANDDD I was just watching The Big Bang Theory and it is Bernadette’s Hospital Bag! She has the burgandy/ox-blood color 🙂  It seriously would be a perfect hospital bag….. the characters and the writer’s of that show are obviously geniuses, so if you don’t believe me, believe them.

MINI STRAIGHTENER : trust me when I say that having small hair products is a life saver.  this travel straightener is only $30 which makes it a complete steal, and it’s so much less space in your travel bag.  hotels always have hair dryers that you can use, but they are usually straight out of 1980.  this lightweight and COLLAPSIBLE HAIRDRYER would be a great thing to have too.

PORTABLE PHONE BATTERY : because let’s face it,  they come in so many cute prints, but this FLORAL CHARGER and PINEAPPLE CHARGER are my favorites.

PINCH PROVISIONS AIRPLANE KIT : trust me.  you’ll need something, if not tons of things, from this when you are on a flight.  plus it takes up zero space! this makes such a great inexpensive gift for anyone and everyone – and is the perfect stocking stuffer size.

CASHMERE SCARF : it starts out hot, then gets freezing, then hot again.  Pick a nice scarf that will last you, in a lightweight but warm material, and ideally in a neutral that will match as much of your clothing for the trip as possible.

SPANX LEGGINGS : I prefer to wear maxi dresses in the warm months, but basically anything but shorts (ew…. bare thighs and skin touching the airport seats and airplane seats…. nay nay fluffy) but if I can’t get away with a dress I wear leggings.  and if you’re like me it’s something you would be packing to wear at some point on your trip anyway.

FOLDABLE TRAVEL FLATS : pick a pair of flats you’ll wear on your trip, or stow these foldable beauties in your carry on to change in to when needed.  I love these TORTOISE SHELL FLATS but a great SOLID FOLDABLE FLAT in cream, black, or navy would be perfect too.

LUGGAGE SCALE : just do it.  don’t act like you haven’t needed one in the past.

TAKE CHARGE CHARGING ORGANIZER : keep all of your necessities for your phone/computer/ear-buds all in one easy to access, super-cute spot.  another perfect stocking stuffer!!

COMPRESSION PACKING CUBES : some people may only use these for bigger trips, but Kip and I use them for every trip, even a short weekend.  It is a great way to fit as much as you can into your suitcase but also to pack in an organized manner.

a few more specific items, especially perfect for longer flights :
MOTION SICKNESS WRISTBAND : if you are one of those people that could even possibly get neaseous, have some on hand.  people swear by them.  I’m getting some for my sister for our flight to the Caymans for Christmas because she had a rough time this past weekend on our flight to Boston.

COLLAPSIBLE WATER BOTTLE : I’m insane and drink more water than anyone I know.  Especially for long flights or for big trips, this is a necessity.  It was a lifesaver for our Italy trip.

MOLDED EYE MASK : a necessity for long flights.  this one will keep from messing up any eye make-up (or from smooshing your eyelashes for you lucky ladies I envy with super long lashes)

UNIVERSAL MINI ADAPTER : again, if going abroad, gotta have it and this one will work for any trip to any other countries you take in the future.  plus, it’s mini and has cute colors!

I’ve been e-mailing with a few readers about our Italy trip a year or so ago answering some questions.

I realized I never did a Rome recap …. oops…. so unlike me right? 🙂

I’m adding that to my list!

We are possibly going back to Italy for a wedding in July….. not completely finalized yet if we can make it, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that we make it to Lake Como!

In the meantime while I get my act together and finish the final recaps,

 check out my travel necessities for long international trips with this

PACKING FOR 2 WEEKS IN ITALY POST

and also my recap of the following cities

VENICE RECAP

SIENA RECAP

  • DIY this high end look for less! I'm sharing the 5 easy steps to disguise your air return cover and all the supplies to complete this project. My favorite part of this easy DIY how-to, is that tou can customize the look with paint color and different metal sheet patterns to match your home decor and aesthetic. I actually used leftover supplies from my DIY built-in shelf and desk in my home office to create this look. It helps elevate the space, adding a touch of elegance and a refined finish without breaking the bank. It was easy and affordable to create this custom look for less. Click to shop the DIY project supplies on Amazon. Note: I used scrap wood I had on hand for the project, but you can also pick up 1x2 wood planks from Amazon or a local hardware or craft store. #ad #Amazon #DIY
