:: Tuesday Randoms ::

I would love all of your help with picking a dress to wear for a wedding this weekend in Chicago.
I really want to wear the watercolor maxi that I wore to the wedding in Italy.  Technically no one attending this weekends wedding “saw it” except my husband…. but ya know…. I instagrammed it, so technically everyone has seen it? And it’s not like I wore it a few months ago, I wore it like 2 weeks ago.  SO.  I sprinted to Bloomingdale’s Sunday and brought home two other options.

What do you all think – wear the watercolor maxi that I just wore in Italy to a wedding, or wear one of these options?
And the black and blue dresses look much better in person than they do in the photos. HELP!
Oh, and the dress code is Black Tie Optional.  I am having Kip wear his tux.  I just showed Kip this picture without telling him these are my options and he said he likes the black one best  — he has already forgotten the watercolor dress and has no idea that is what I wore two weeks ago!

// WATERCOLOR DRESS // BLACK MIDI DRESS // BLUE LONG DRESS //

I wish they had this red dress in the store because I probably would have snagged that and called it a day – it’s the exact style I was looking for (strapless and midi!)

The most exciting thing to happen this week was Trader Joe’s doing a full re-stock of the Frozen Cauliflower Pizza Crust.  I was so excited to get my hands on it! We made the pizza’s Sunday night and they were delicious – even husband approved!  The key is definitely getting the crust as crispy as you can so that it really has the texture of pizza.   We baked it for 12-15 minutes on one side, flipped it over and repeated that again for 12-15 minutes, and then broiled it to get it crispy.  Once we topped it with our toppings I also did it under the broiler again! Seriously amazing.  I loved it and think this will be a weekly dinner for us – it was perfect for a busy Sunday!

I was very proud of myself for getting such a crispy crust.

Speaking of quick and healthy dinners, I ordered the Instant Pot/Slow Cooker when I saw it on super sale.  It’s 50% off right now!
We use our slow cooker constantly and I had been eyeing this one for quite some time.  It has the ability to delay start and then to shut itself off while your at work and switch to warm, plus it’s a million things in one : slow cooker, pressure cooker, rice maker, can sautee, etc.  I’m sure I’ll mainly be using it for slow cooking but hopefully we can try out the pressure cooker aspect too.

Skinnytaste has tons of recipes using the Instant Pot and one that I know I will definitely be trying is the 30 Minute One-Pot Spaghetti Squash and Meat Sauce.

She said she was able to cook the spaghetti squash WITHOUT having to cut it in half! This is music to my ears because when Kip is out of town for work I nearly kill myself or lose a hand trying to cut it in half.

You may have seen on my insta-stories that we are in the middle of building a screened in back deck! This has been something we have been wanting since we bought the house, and we had met with 3 contractors over about 10 months, but the quotes were just way too high for what we were willing to pay.  A friend at book club mentioned a referral for someone that did her deck – a company that only does decks – and we got a much more reasonable quote from him! Construction started last Thursday and they are already making huge progress! I almost cried when I got home from work on Friday and saw it after just 2 days!

Day Two Progress :

Day Four Progress :

My orders from the Nordstrom Sale are sporadically coming in.  So far my favorites are below.

// LUSH V-NECK TEE // LUSH FLUTTER SLEEVE TOP // HALOGEN LEGGINGS // HALOGEN DRESS // ZELLA HIGH WAIST LEGGINGS

The sale is only on for 5 more days and I still keep finding new things and things back in stock in my size!
Last night while making that collage I saw that this dress was finally back in stock and only $29!

// LUSH RUFFLE SLEEVE T SHIRT DRESS //

I watched the Men Tell All last night so I have RHOC waiting for me tonight!
Happy Tuesday!

:: Packing for 2 Weeks in Europe in Only a Carry On Suitcase ::

Today I have a highly requested packing post for you! The hardest part of a two week vacation is figuring out what to pack.  When we went to Italy two years ago, we went to 5 cities and were taking trains and ferries from place to place – we couldn’t have big suitcases to be dragging all across the cobblestone streets from place to place.  So I learned how to get very smart with my packing and fit everything into a carry-on suitcase!

You can see my Packing for 2 Weeks in Italy Post from two years ago here.
It gets very, very specific!

So today I am going to share how I did it all again – for two weeks spent first in Amsterdam and then in Italy.  This time was harder because I had to pack for cooler temps in Amsterdam, a wedding (which meant an additional pair of shoes just for the wedding) and extreme heat in Italy.  With no AC.

But trust me, if I can do it, you can do it!

Always start by making a list.  And make the list in advance! I write everything down so that I can make sure I won’t forget anything and can see what I need more or less of.  Then I start laying everything out, ideally in a separate room.  I used the office as a place to set everything out.

For the suitcase, I roll everything.  Then I pack everything into packing cubes.  We have one set of compression packing cubes that I love – they are a great space saver to get all of the air out -and  another regular set of packing cubes.

// PACKING CUBES //

I used both regular and compression cubes for this trip.

My most important piece of advice is to be very smart with your carry-on purse.  I use this weekender bag and swear by it.  I have talked about this bag a zillion times before but truly I would never be able to pack in a carry-on suitcase alone if I didn’t have this bag as my “personal item”.// SOLE SOCIETY WEEKENDER BAG //

  It fits under the seat in front of you, but of course for these international flights you’ll want to put it in the overhead bin.  A big thing for this is to pack in lots of pouches or zippered bags, that way you can get to something easily and know right where it is instead of rifling through 50 pounds of your crap!
And pack your purse – that is packed inside the carry-on and ready – with your inflight essentials.

Here is what I fit into the carry-on bag :

Two purses:
One bucket bag for daytime, and one clutch for night that has a detachable cross-body strap.
The bucket bag is great because you can fit so much when you are walking around all day – water, book, a camera, etc.
For the flight, I packed the bucket bag with what I knew I would need during the flight (book, neck pillow, etc.) and kept that at my feet.

// SIMILAR BUCKET BAG // CLUTCH WITH DETACHABLE CHAIN //
clutch is currently 50% off!

A hat, Bose noise cancelling headphones (borrowed and loved them!) eye mask, ear plugs, inflatable neck pillow.
// NECK PILLOW // EYE MASK //

And here is everything that I put in the carry-on bag!
Pouches are the key – I swear.  I kept all of my vitamins and medicine and granola bars in one pouch, make-up in one,  essentials like earbuds and converters and chargers in one, and then things like tissues and hand cream and hand sanitizer and hair ties and all that in another.  When everything is in a pouch you know where it is and can get to it much more easily.
My jewelry is also in a blue travel jewelry case and goes in my carry-on.

Additional necessities – cleansing wipes to wipe down everything at your seat (call me a lunatic, but planes are disgusting and the last thing you want on a vacation like this is to be sick!), big comfy fuzzy socks, scarf, and toiletries ready to pull out for security check and then you can put them in the carry-on-suitcase.
I also had my laptop and charger so that I could blog while there, but unless necessary, I obviously don’t recommend bringing a computer!

Here are some details of what I packed for the trip :

2 sets pajamas

// BUT FIRST COFFEE SHIRT // STRIPED TASSEL SHORTS // FLORAL SHORTS // NAVY SLEEP TANK //

2 bathing suits (I also added in a strapless bikini top, not shown)

// BLACK DESIGNER KNOCK-OFF ONE PIECE //

2 scarves.

// BLUE PRINTED SCARF //

2 pairs of jeans, three tank tops, two shorts
3 pairs of shoes (2 sandals, one wedge for the wedding)
don’t judge my gold sandals, they are clearly very worn and loved – they were a godsend on our last Italy trip!

// STRETCH DENIM JEANS // WHITE DENIM JEANS // TISSUE TANK //

Workout Clothes – as much as you want or need.

8 Dresses.
Solid color dresses are a safe bet when making the most out of a carry-on wardrobe because you can wear them multiple times and change your accessories up to make different looks.

// BLACK MAXI // BLUE MAXI // RED LACE DRESS // WHITE LACE DRESS // STRIPED DRESS //

One pair of nice shorts and silk top.
// SAME SHORTS, BUT IN PINEAPPLE PRINT //     // WHITE SILK CAMI //

Chambray one shoulder and Chambray button down
the chambray button down is always an essential!

// ONE SHOULDER TOP //

Two rompers.
// FLORAL ROMPER // SIMILAR STRIPED ROMPER //

One dress for the wedding.
I was obsessed with this dress.  I want to wear it to the wedding we have this weekend too but feel like it’s too soon and that is a fashion faux pas??

// NICOLE MILLER DRESS //
runs very large, size down – I got a 0 and still had to alter it.

Jewelry.
I leave all delicate, expensive, or important jewelry at home (except for my wedding rings) and put a heavy focus on earrings to change up outfits and make my solid colored dresses more fun.
// BAUBLE BAR TASSEL EARRINGS //

Most curlers/straighteners/blow dryers are not dual voltage, so check yours before bringing it.  I got a cheap dual straightener/curler on Amazon for the trip.  We also are addicted to our steamer and never travel without it – to us, it’s a necessity. This little mini travel steamer barely takes up any space at all and is a dream.  It’s also dual voltage so it can be used internationally.

// TWO WAY IRON // TRAVEL STEAMER //

I also packed a jean jacket and two thin long cardigan sweaters but I don’t have a photo of those!

To end, a summary of some packing tips! If you are doing a big trip to Italy and going city to city, check out my other post for super specific packing list!

Tips for Packing for 2 Weeks in a Carry-On Only :

  • Try to stick with solids or a main color scheme so that you can re-wear items as needed but change it up for a different look.
  • Do laundry as needed.  We brought a small travel size Tide and had access in our AirB&B to laundry, but last time in Italy we washed our underwear in the sink and then hung it to dry across the hotel room.  Classy. But whatever works!
  • One hanging toiletry bag works best for small bathrooms and easily being able to pack and go from place to place.
  • It’s not the time for trendy and fabulous – unless you want to check a bag.
  • It’s also not the time for anything expensive or that would devastate you if lost or damaged.  when moving cities and switching hotel rooms or air b and b’s constantly you could easily leave something behind like that necklace or earrings
  • Accessories are the best way to change up your looks if you have to wear a dress or an outfit more than once, and jewelry takes up barely any space at all in luggage.
  • Packing cubes are a dream.  They also come in handy as the trip progresses for keeping dirty clothes separate from clean clothes.
  • I’m a roller not a folder; I roll everything I can to maximize space and I also pack socks and underwear into any nook and cranny I can find and into shoes to maximize space.
  • Wear your bulkiest items on the plane to save room in your suitcase. Also, wear layers on the plane – it goes from hot to very cold easily.  Have your socks and scarf ready and waiting in your carry on for when the cold temps kick in!
  • Pack everything you will want to have with you at your seat on the place in your purse that you put in your carry-on bag.  Then just pull that out and stow your bags in the overhead compartment to have optimal foot room.
  • Wrap your shoes in shower caps from hotels or plastic bags to keep them covered. Pack socks and underwear into shoes to save space.
  • Don’t forget converters – and more than one.  With phones to charge and hairdryers to switch over, you’ll want at least two minimum.
  • If you can, leave room for souvenirs along the way, or pack a collapsible bag so that you can check a bag on the way home and have room for everything.

I hope this helps! Oh, and I never wear make-up on these flights, which is another tip.
So ignore my shiny face below!

I never thought this week would come to an end 🙂  The first week back is always the longest!
We have a very low-key weekend planned – I still have lots of catching up (and sleeping!) to do! And I found the frozen Cauliflower Crust at Trader Joe’s this week so I think some homemade pizzas are in order for tonight’s date night with my DVR!

DISCUSS AMONGST YA-SELVES…….

Bear with me while I am still playing catch up on all of the shows!!!
Some of my commentary is from things you may have seen two weeks ago – sorry!

:: RH of OC ::

My jaw hit the floor when I saw the intro.  I had seen the preview of the intro with all of their (horrible) tag-lines but there was something I hadn’t noticed in the past.  Don’t even get me started on Kelly Dodd’s tagline….

or Lydia’s for that matter….. the others are bad but those are the worst.
When they get to Vicki’s tagline and show her family in the background, HER BOYFRIEND STEVE IS THERE.

Are you serious?!?! You have your kids and grandkids and SOME GUY YOU JUST STARTED DATING?!
She is SO DESPERATE.

The other big shocker was that Vicki is not front and center with the orange…… nay nay.

There is no OG of the OC getting the center of the V-Formation.
Instead it is Vicki’s friend turned nemesis front and center.

There are so many things that make me nuts about Vicki, and believe it or not, helping Brooks fake cancer is further down the list than you’d think. She is such a hypocrite about women and criticizes women constantly for their jobs mostly.  For someone so judgmental about a woman who stays at home with her kids and relies on the man working, she can’t function without a man.  She can’t even walk out the door without a man giving her words of affirmation every 10 seconds.  She puts the man IN HER INTRO PACKAGE?  And she cares SO much about what everyone thinks that at the age of 55 she will admit she cares about being cool and popular.  That was as nicely as I could vent on Vicki….

Why does Tamra have a guinea pig? Really? Why? Why?
……. Why?

Shannon is a bomb ready to erupt
(edit: I wrote this prior to seeing all 3 episodes…… she erupts…. again… and again).
What begins with being visibly irate over David’s disinterest in Quinoa for dinner turns into lashing out at everyone over everything and storming off.  Her reaction to Lydia? Screaming and crying and running to the limo over sweet little Lydia?? She’s wound so tight she is ready to implode at any moment. She needs to calmmmm down.

Even the dinner (at The Quiet Woman!) with the new girl she is ready to pounce at everything she says about not wanting to build her own house (for 6 years! because that is crazy!)

And then Kelly Dodd comes in to the restaurant… and you know it won’t be becoming a calm situation.

She seriously is horrible.  Simply AWFUL.  She goes right for the jugular every time.

We see in mere minutes that Kelly Dodd is exactly the same as last season – cackling in her face as Shannon leaves crying out the back door of the restaurant, and then pushing her mouth and face up against the clear glass of the restaurant door while the ladies are outside because of the scene that just ensued.

I cannot believe this whole dinner scene.  And that is all occurs at The Quiet Woman.  Incredible.

I like the new girl so far! Her husband is adorable and they seem very happily married which is refreshing for a change. She is mortified by everyone’s behavior at dinner.  And she’s bringing breast cancer awareness to women on top of it all!

I just can’t believe that Shannon’s entire story line is her weight gain…. I feel awful for her…..I’m sure she never realized out of everything being filmed and everything she said that it would be all the focus was?
but seriously…. it’s not all Vicki……

But maybe she’s on to something…..
when I stepped on the scale this morning I shouldn’t have thought “well, Italy was worth it”
I should have yelled “DAMNIT VICKI! LOOK AT WHAT YOU’VE DONE TO ME”

:: LAST WEEKS RH of NY ::

Prior to heading to Mexico, I could not believe (slash can totally believe) Ramona’s behavior at Steakhouse dinner.  If you are trying to be invited on a trip, perhaps don’t yell at the person hosting you?
And then when Bethenny says she isn’t inviting her, Ramona just says she is going anyway! I understand that these trips are overall Bravo Trips and she kind of has to be invited, but since this is a Skinny Girl trip I really feel like it is Bethenny’s trip and she  can’t just show up?! I guess I just was her not invited…..
Tinsley goes on her first date with Mr. Coupon Cabin and WOW is she a bad first dater. Talking about ex husband and pointing out that you are still wearing the wedding ring? and then just shoving your tongue down his throat? Although it must work, because then they spent the next 5 days in Florida together.  So, hey, what do I know?

We finally make it to Mexico ! FINALLY !

And Ramona, the genius that she is, decides to get a facial laser or some treatment of some kind rind before the trip.  Great idea before any trip but especially before a trip to lay in the Mexican sun.  Did she learn nothing from Samantha Jones and Sex & The City?

A version of marry shag kill is brought up in the cars on the way to the Villa and the ladies say that they would all kill Tinsley because she unmarry’able and un-shag’able. Wow that’s mean!?  And Tinsley gets out of the car and immediately shakes the mans hand that works there, so I’d marry and shag her every single time.  SHE’S A LADY.  Which clearly these thankless betches with no manners know nothing about.  I get so mad watching these trips when they behave the way they do to the staff!!!

For some reason, I, like Bethenny, was trying to give Ramona the benefit of the doubt about being a selfish brat about rooms for this trip.  Especially when she wasn’t even invited, I didn’t think she would try to pull the same crap.  But nope, she doesn’t even make it to the view of the pool and the ocean before she sneaks off trying to find the best room.

I would kick her out.  Bethenny can pull rank on anything with Bravo and Mf-Bf-AC and I REALLY want her to.

Sadly that wasn’t the worst part of her behavior.  She immediately starts cruelly bossing the staff around and acting like they are her personal servants for the week.  “Send someone to do all this because Im just not in the mood” she says as she hurls a shoe into the closet shelf.  And then when another staff member is there she is telling her what to do and  SNAPS HER FINGERS at her.

She makes me so sick.  Karma is NOT a big enough bitch to her.

WHAT in the HELL is Carole wearing to this dinner?  Dark jeans, sneakers, and pulled down the mosquito net from above her bed and tied it around her top into a tube top?

Bethenny’s one liners continue to kill me.  Regarding Ramona putting on make-up for dinner:
“putting make up on Ramona’s face today is like throwing an extra deck chair on the QE2”

And finally…. the highlight of the night.  Drunk LuAnn.  And drunk LuAnn’s falls.  Plural.

I would just like to thank the producers at Bravo for only showing us the fall from the cement landing, because the fall into the bushes made me the laugh the hardest I have laughed in a very, very long time.  It was AH-mazing.

And typical Ramona just bitches and criticizes and related it back to herself for at least 6 sentences
before ever checking if she was okay.

:: Southern Charm Reunions ::

I was proud of how much better behaved everyone was this year versus last.  Although it seems like Kathryn only stayed well behaved after Thomas threatened and did all of her rebuttles through whispers knowing she would be mic’d and they would be picked up?

Even Kathryn’s fash-un was more demure! Still bad and Gone With the Wind “fabulous”. But nothing insane like last year.  I do love her hair that length but you can’t have fire engine red hair and then want to wear giant fire red dresses.
I really just want the ring that Cameron had on…. I am salivating over it!
Truly my dream ring with the quatrefoils and the sapphires.

:: Bachelorette ::

I really love her and Peter and their gap teeth chemistry together.  I feel like it’s going to be Bryan, but I really love Peter.  What’s wrong with being sane and realistic and saying that not putting a ring on it at the end of only knowing each other a few weeks doesn’t mean you don’t not want to be with them.

Bryan’s biggest red flag is obviously his mom.

The last girlfriend dumped him because of the mom.  The mom looks like she is going to vomit throughout the entire date.
However, the mom chugging that glass of wine while she does her fake-cheers to the couple is competition with Jojo’s mom for best chug….. so in that sense….. I like her and she wins possible amazing mother-in-law of the year.

And Oh. My. Gahhhhh.  Dean’s Hometown.  For once, it really was the most dramatic hometown of all time.  No amount of build up and dramatic music could have prepared me for Dean’s father.
Rachel handled the situation SO well.  I would never have been able to handle it or say all the things in commentary that she did.  Slow clap.

And don’t hold your breath for cutie-pie Dean being the next Bachelor…. he says he isn’t ready.   Which I would agree with…. but I just think he’s precious.

:: Shahs of Sunset ::

The previews for this season left me speechless.  I don’t know that I have the energy to recap it, but I will say that seeing the sister from People’s Couch appear as party planner Destiney made me just want to watch all the past episodes of Peoples Couch immediately.

:: Bachelor In Paradise ::

The countdown is on and I am SO excited!
Chris Harrison said not much has changed “post-incident”…. but I wonder what that means for what we actually see in episodes of the show?
I can’t wait to see if they play any of the things that were taped “pre-incident” or if they somehow just start the season “post-incident” or what?  which leads me to my Jackhole of the week….

:: Jackhole of the Week ::

Demarius was being a Jackhole long before his Bachelor days, hitting on Brit Brit and causing a scene in the street in 2008.  Whoever saw this video and immediately identified Demarius, or remembered Demarius from a video from 2008, needs to be my BFF.

:: Editors Note ::
As always, ignore my own blatant grammatical errors whilst I make fun of others poor grammar during Coffee Talk on a weekly basis.
#HYPOCRITE   #SORRYIMNOTSORRY
I write these posts late at night while simultaneously watching Bravo, taking snaochats of my snoring husband, and making to do lists of everything I was supposed to do and didn’t do that day, and likely won’t do the next day either.  Or the day after that.

:: Wish List Wednesday ::

The NSale Madness is still going on in full force, but there are tons of other gorgeous steals and deals to be had elsewhere.
Here are some of my absolute favorite new arrivals at J.Crew.   I am lusting after practically EVERYTHING!

This sequin skirt sell out SO FAST every year.  This is fully stocked in all sizes.  Snag it while you can!

// SEQUIN SKIRT //

I love the hand embellishments of the white top, and the navy and white striped peplum even has a peplum back!

// WHITE V NECK TOP // STRIPED BUTTON BACK TOP //

I need an occasion for this dress IMMEDIATELY.

// STRIPED SPAGHETTI STRAP DRESS //

Perfect tops to wear with white denim or shorts now, and with dark wash denim later!

// BOW SHOULDER TOP // WHITE LACE PEPLUM //

Such a cute swim cover up! I love the tassels and the hoodie, too.
// SWIM COVER UP //

This skirt and this dress make my heart go pitter patter.  The skirt comes in two other colors too, but I just love the high wist and big bow on the side (and like my favorite J.Crew shorts you can tie in anywhere you like!) I just think with a simple tank or cami this would be such a gorgeous look.   And the dress is simply perfection!

// TIE WAIST SKIRT // TIE SHOULDER DRESS //

I don’t know what it is, well – the tie waist gets me every time – but I am so in love with these pants.  With heels, a white silk cami and a simple clutch and earrings, these would make such a simple but stunning look for a rehearsal dinner or fancy occasion!

// TIE WAIST PANTS //

// RUFFLE SLEEVE TOP //

The perfect sweaters for fall! The grosgrain ribbon at the back of the sleeveless is adorable.

// COLLARED SWEATER // SLEEVELESS SWEATER WITH BOW BACK //

This top seems like it would be a perfect staple for now an for later.
I love the embroidered detail and the peplum hem.

// EMBROIDERED TOP //

And the cutest fitness gear I have ever seen.  Seersucker for the gym!? YES PLEASE.

// WORKOUT TOP // SNEAKERS // JACKET //

I’m still anxiously awaiting several items from the Nordstrom Sale, but here is what I have received so far and loved :

These Zella High Waist Leggings are a complete winner.  I’m wearing them as I type and love every inch.  Super comfy and the high waist is perfect.  I got an XS.

I also got these rose gold studs and love, love, love them! Perfect size  – not too big and costume’y and also not too small. Just right!

I kept stalking this Lush Raw Edge Side Slit Tee and finally was able to snag it in three colors.  Keep checking back – they are restocking and then disappearing frequently!

I am still waiting on this dress to arrive that I have stocked.  If you hit refresh on the page while your working on your computer, sizes keep coming back in stock constantly! I’m hoping what I snagged will fit!

I am also waiting for this jumpsuit to get restocked in my size and kicking myself for not ordering it when I first saw it!

What came and is being returned :
I had high hopes for this cashmere draped vest, but it is one size fits all and even belted it just seems too baggy.  It’s much bigger than it appears on the model.  I had hoped for a more fitted look that I wouldn’t have to belt.
I will say it is crazy, crazy soft if you are wanting an oversized vest!
I am also sending back this black jumpsuit – I love it overall, but it’s too wide and unflattering in the hips (like one reviewer says).
