Lifestyle, weekend recap

:: little things ::

January 26, 2015

:: little things ::
random little things to kick off the week …….

this post about 9 things to do on the weekend to kick off the week
would definitely help me soothe my extreme sunday-scaries

also see this post, A Case of The Mondays: 7 Simple Tips that Make for Better Mondays.

if you can’t tell…. my sundayscaries leads me to google or pinterest search ways to tame my sundayscaries and basically stay up even later and be even more stressed because I am unable to do any of the things they suggest me to do.
it’s like, GET A GRIP TAYLOR GEEZ.

I posted Coffee Talk a day late last week, on Friday, because I’m a pain in the ass.  SO go check it out in case you missed it and stimulate those brain cells.

The SNL Bachelor Skit on Saturday night’s episode was incredible.

my girl crush for j. lo continues to be on point.

her face on WWHL last thursday was SO PERFECT that I could not take my eyes off of her.
not even her boobies can distract from how gorgeous her face is. it’s crazy.

my last two orders from piper lime came with these adorable garment baggies and I was all excited!

literally can’t believe they are closing piper lime.

 I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself.

I’m hoping a jumbo sale will happen at some point??

I ordered the romper I had posted about and LOVED IT.  it is so cute and so comfortable. the fit runs large, so I had to return mine.  order down a size or to your smaller size

it was so, so adorable.

Use Code MUSTHAVE for 25% OFF everything through the end of today 1/26.

if you follow gal meets glam on instagram you’ll know she was in st lucia all last week.

all of her daytime posts were from Sugar Beach which is where we stayed for our second half of our honeymoon, and then she was staying at the amazing Ladera Resort higher up in the Pitons.

sugar beach image via – TAKE US BACK!

I am SO CONFUSED how she spent every night at Ladera Resort and then went down to Sugar Beach Resort every day.  For those of you that have vacationed there you know that the roads are so, so rough and wind all over and that it takes forever to get around.  She must have spent so much time being naseus in a car going back and forth? I would have blown chunks every morning and every night.

but GAWD give me her life because now she is at the Jumby Bay Rosewood Resort in Antigua.

I’m almost finished with Liane Moriarty’s The Last Anniversary.

It isn’t as good as her 3 more recent books (What Alice Forgot, The Husband’s Secret, Big Little Lies) but I’m still really enjoying a couple chapters before bed each night.

I’ve been hearing rumblings about the new book The Girl On The Train being a great read if you loved Gone Girl.

That was what they said about that one book “You Should Have Known” ….it was horrible.

I don’t know who “they” is, but you know what I mean.

this photo from the @betches account on instagram summed up every sunday my sunday.

after a delicious brunch with kip’s family at Range in Lincoln Park,

I made myself comfy and finished the 5th season of Parenthood on Netflix.  I was all set to kick off season 6 On Demand and it wouldn’t work.

Don’t worry…. I didn’t decide to go be productive. I went on Pinterest and Instagram and watched Friends.

range is so, so delicious.  highly recommend it.

I got the Lululemon Sweatshirt I had talked about last week and let me tell ya,

 it is softer than a baby’s bottom.  and just as cute.

looking hawt like the model.  obviously.
 I was having a KILLER hair day (for me) on Sunday afternoon,
so I’m really glad my teddy bear, Sugar, and husband were the only ones around to see it.

Sugar assured me it was definitely a hot hair day for me.

Howeverrrrr, this is what Sugar looked like when we woke up Sunday morning

I assure you no staging was had.

So I think he may have been a little hungover and not quite with it.

weekend things + monogram monday

January 19, 2015

weekend things + monogram monday
hope you all had a great weekend!!

kevin harts SNL episode was one of the best so far this season (so many this season have been so, so bad).  I love me some SNL.

as always, kate mckinnon KILLS IT as beiber.
  I adore her.

the skinny taste cookbook has been on heavy rotation for the past week. I’ve never made so many recipes from a cookbook so quickly (probably because Im usually cooking from my BFF Ina’s cookbooks and don’t let myself make recipe after recipe from there or else our waistlines will suffer).
don’t tell ina I just said that, it is a sin.

there are so many recipes earmarked that I need to get to!
so far I’ve made two tasty slow cooker meals, and we also made skinny sweet potato fries and cauliflower mashed potatoes with our steaks last night for dinner!
recipes to come this week or next!
weekend outfits :
dinner at one of our favorite casual italian spots, Frasca
  // forever 21 popover top //
I decided wine will be part of all of my outfit posts since it is the most important 🙂
this one was Chloe Pinot Grigio in the cutest bottle ever that a friend brought over with dinner this week and I loved it!

 Frasca is in Lakeview and is one of our absolute favorite places.  We love parking up at the bar, having some drinks and some yummy food.
Kip always gets calamari, but we also tried the Goat Cheese Fonduate and it was incredible.
Their pizzas are always to die for. we had their special for the night, a brussel sprouts pizza with bacon. um. no explanation needed.

Saturday night we went out for the KU basketball game with friends
wait, wheres my wine?
oh phew here it is.
I love, love this nordstrom pleione blouse (great price and so comfy!)
it comes in solids and other prints as well, this pink version being my favorite
and it looks great when you get home from the bar and are digging through the pantry for treats with your husband ….. whoops.
Sunday, I watched Parenthood all day,
while some soup cooked up in the slow cooker for the week.
don’t worry.  I diversified with an episode of Project Runway All Stars, two trashy magazines, and a couple chapters from Liane Moriarty The Last Anniversary.
oh. and lots and lots of Pinterest.

Netflix is SO judgey.  ugh,RUDE. know your audience, Netflix! (image via my instagram account)
 Oh, and I can’t forget to share Sundays (all day long) sexy ensemble.
// RL monogrammed jammies //
I mean….. my husband is. so. damn. lucky.

a monogrammed favorite for the week:
my tory burch sandals with initials to personalize them.
they arrived the day that we left for the caymans, so sadly i want unable to wear them, and since I live in freezing cold chicago, I won’t be wearing them for quite some time.

how cute is the shoe bag they came with!? I’m like the child that likes the box better than the gift inside of it.

I have a total white-girl-first-world-problem question, so prepare to laugh your head off.
I keep looking at them thinking “wait, are people going to think my shoes are trying to spell Tory, for Tory Burch, when they see these, or think its my initials”
and then my second thought is “ew… i have really ugly feet so I hope people don’t look at my feet long enough to realize there are even letters on there!”
but then I’m like “WAITTTTT but I WANT them to look long enough to be thinking “oh my gosh so cute she has her initials on her shoes'”
and then the vicious cycle continues.
when your feeling crazy at some point today, just think about me and feel better about yourself.

I can’t tell if I want to switch them out for the red color, but that is the beauty of nordstrom – I can wait an eternity and decide when I feel like it.
{im also in love with these tory burch sandals, and my favorite price point of under $100)

hopefully most of you are off work today.  I am not…. so have a glass of vino for me.
woof. mondays.

2014 :: year in review

January 5, 2015

2014 :: year in review
I know a lot of people posted the “2014 post” last week on the 31st of December or the 1st of January….. but that time for me was still vacation time from work!
I don’t know how bloggers are always so on top of it during the holidays? All I am focused on in eating and drinking as much as humanly possible.  That and watching TV and online shopping……. that is pretty much it.  What else could a girl need ?

So for today, hopefully we can pretend it’s 1st as we recap the year!
2014 was by far the busiest, most exciting year filled with the most change.  {with more weddings, bachelorette parties, and showers than a girl could count – and I loved every one of them!}
:: January ::
I met my nephew for the first time.  He decided he couldn’t wait another minute to meet everyone and was born a few weeks early in December 2013, but I wasn’t able to fly home to meet him until his expected arrival date.

 at a month old he was still the tiniest thing I had ever seen.

I have no experience with babies at all, and have never considered myself a “baby person”, and I am so in love with him and want to stare at him and eat him to pieces all day long.

:: February ::
 I quit the gym {it’s the little things people…. it was two years overdue.}
celebrated my best friends bachelorette weekend in Charleston
first time there and I absolutely love it and cannot wait to go back

our engagement party

ski trip to lake geneva

:: March ::
joint bridal shower in atlanta

best friends wedding in atlanta

:: April ::
my family flew in for my chicago shower

 28th birthday (ugh. woof.)

:: May ::
my bachelorette party in Nashville

:: June ::
Our Wedding Weekend !

Honeymoon in St. Lucia
which I never did a post on…. errr oops. maybe 2015 is the year for me following through.

another best friends wedding

:: July ::

two bridal showers

chandler’s baptism

:: August ::
best friends bachelorette in NYC

trip to boston for my brothers wedding party

:: September ::
a best friends wedding

closed on our first home !

:: October ::
three more wedding celebrations

:: November ::
a surprise ER stay for appendicitis

 I made seriously pretty doughnuts {again, it’s the little things}

thanksgiving with the in-laws in chicago

:: December ::
a beautiful baby shower for one of my best friends

first married christmas

annual family trip to Grand Cayman, with the prettiest sunsets ever seen this year.

it was the most fun, crazy, exciting year yet, made even better by how many great things  happened this year for my friends and family as well.  it was so fun to celebrate all of lifes big moments together with the people I’m closest to.  I don’t know how this year could possibly be topped!

goodness sorry for the total overload of photos in this post.

and a HUGE thank you to all of you for reading my silly blog this past year 🙂
your comments and e-mails always make my day
the ones about coffee talk with your thoughts and opinions (cough : and telling me I’m funny : cough) are of course my most favorite of them all
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

things.

things.
via

happy monday ugh. the weekend’s over.

I stayed in Saturday because I have been so tired lately I can’t stand it.  I had a lovely night alone with my one true love lovah, Netflix.

after my lame but amazing night as a 97 year old, I awoke ready to deck the halls.
we seem to have finally retired our faux target tree after many, many years together.
I still want to put it up downstairs in the basement living room though?!
can’t say I’m too sad about it.  I feel like such a sadie sadie married lady having a REAL tree! we went to the little pop-up christmas tree lot a few blocks from our place and picked from the few smaller trees they had available while I eyed all the gorgeous, expensive, huge trees.

 we watched Home Alone and Love Actually on sunday while we decorated.

and then we capped the weekend off with SNL Christmas Special.
I laughed my ass off at skits I’ve seen a thousand times,
whilst my husband said for the thousandth time “what is this? how have you seen this?”.
in 16 days we will be heading to the cayman islands for our family christmas.
we’ve done this every year for about 8 years, except last year we took a year off since my sister was expecting  (Kip and I used the opportunity to take our much delayed first vacay alone together. seriously.) I can’t wait to be back it’s my favorite place ever.
I can’t wait to see my little stingrays 🙂
because a bikini is in my future in 2 short weeks,
I’ve been trying to get back on the gym wagon.
this “carpet” yoga mat is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.
// yoga mat //
but its just my family, and Kip already put a ring on it,
sooooo whatever bring on the carbs.

I found the cutest gift for under $10 this weekend
beer goggles! ha! get it!? beer goggles! like… ok you get it……
// gamago beer goggles //
aren’t they so cute!!??
and seemingly so practical, but then everyone forgets what color they had or leaves it on their first beer and doesn’t move it to their second, or third, or fourth….

me. always :: whose drink is this? is this mine?

I know from experience with wine charms, numbered glasses, and a million other things, that at least with my friends we still end up with a million half drank glasses and no one knowing which drink is theirs.

:: weekend wears ::
it was a vest weekend up in here.  the herringbone vest I loved for so long and don’t know why I waited so long to order it.  I’ve worn it every week since it arrived.  for a friends party I finally pulled out some fur (my husband thinks the fur is just so ugly and gross so I only pull it out when I will be surrounded by lots of females to assure me it’s cute)
outfit one :: bcbg tunic sweater // j.crew factory herringbone vest // 5050 boots
outfit two :: j.crew factory zipper sweater // banana republic fur vest (similar under $100) // rag & bone jeans // seychelles boots

weekend things

weekend things
well hello monday. you sure snuck up quick.
Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

I kicked the weekend off with a bang.  Literally. I shattered my iPhone screen last week by dropping it in the bathroom during a break at a work conference.  urggghhhh.  I had my phone in my back pocket so I could respond to my many text messages and calls go on instagram immediately during the break and I was SO SMART to remember to take it out of my back pocket so that it didn’t fall into the toilet (totally have never done that before…. ever…. yep…) so I was holding it in the crook of my neck (because AH where do I put it!!?? there wasn’t a shelf or anything in the stall?! and ew I don’t want to put it on the ground?!) … so I’m holding it with my neck and of course I drop it and it lands perfectly face down and shatters.  I was like

 I then sliced up my fingers for the next 24 hours while I used it before I could get it fixed.  damn it all to hell.

anyways, in case that THRILLING story didn’t get ya all riled up, some sightly more interesting weekend things :
I mean, damn. I am such an ar-teest with these collages.

I made cookies this weekend (recipe to come) that tasted so similar to my moms secret recipe (I’m sure she’d give it to me…. maybe…. but I haven’t asked for it so I still don’t have it!) and Kip and I baked and ate the entire thing of matter in two days.
cookies are now banned from being made until december.

we went to pottery barn to return a few things and fell in love with so many things.  their holidays items are amazing.
we are in need of a new coffee table, but their apocathery tables are a-wee out of budget.

we treated ourselves to this red cable knit throw with fleece on the other side.  It was a splurge for sure, but they are on sale for 20% off, Kip loves red and “there should be red in every room” so it was an easy thing for him to agree to, and the red also perfectly made it fit into the “holiday decor” category.  we are already obsessed.
my favorite thing that I found was the set of quotations in the center on the top row. I fell in love with them.

 but OH WAIT, they aren’t for sale.  makes me so damn mad.  so now I am on the hunt…. if anyone sees them or their store sells them let me know 🙂 I can’t find them anywhere online.
 the tartan plaid picture frames were also to die for.  I will be snapping up a few as the perfect Christmas gift.

we went to mexican for dinner with friends and crushed a few margaritas.
 the guacamole trio they served had CRUMBLED BACON on top of one of them.
BACON.  it was incredible.

// spicy bacon quacamole //

I love ted talks .  We watched this one at the seminar I went to and I was laughing like a lunatic.

If you know me, you know I love me a quatrefoil.  Anything with a quatrefoil has to be mine.
We were shopping at HomeGoods and the second we rounded the corner I started walking towards these lamps immediately,

 and before I could even get to them Kip was saying “You are so easy I knew you were going for those!”

So naturally, they had to come with me.
I’m also currently debating this incredible side table from Ballard Design – the price is too good to be true, I may have to order it to see if it fits the space.

and a few weekend wears ::

rag and bone jeans (on sale 20% off) // kate spade striped sweater (similar kate spade), similar steal, another similar steal // tory burch flats (on sale!)

 gap cable knit sweater // piper lime leather pleated skirt {similar} // j.crew necklace // zara shoes {almost identical}

I’ve been doing lots of copy-cat outfits from pin-spiration outfits

I’m going to start doing some more home updates these next few weeks too.
the guest room (in the outfit photo above) was the previous owners sons room, hence the baby blue color.  it is now our guest room my TV room, my closet, and mostly my room where I throw everything and close the door and then I walk in our bedroom and I’m like
 “Kiiipppppp your clothes are everywhere!?!”

that kippppp is to be read in the voice of caitlin saying RIIICKKKK from the SNL skit.
if you know read Kiiipppppp like that before even reading my notes, please come over and be my best friend.

Mmmm-k this post was way long.
If you made it to the end, you go glen coco.

weekend things

weekend things

// one // it was a long, long weekend.  late thursday night/friday morning we went to the ER because kip was having stomach pains.  long story short, kip had appendicitis and had to have his appendix removed.  I went a whole 40 hours without sleep, and then haven’t slept much the rest of the weekend either to make sure he wakes up to take his pills every four hours. he’s been feeling awful since surgery. one of my best friends husband had the same thing happen three weeks ago, and they had gotten back from a three week trip to Italy just days before.  they were so lucky they were home and not abroad or on an airplane.  it scares the living daylights out of me that this just comes out of nowhere with no warning, and without the surgery asap can be extremely, extremely dangerous. anyways, we look so happy in the blurry pic above, which we were not so it cracks me up.  he was on morphine prior to surgery but I have no idea why I am smiling.  (we did luck out and get put into surgery quickly after his CT scan and diagnosis.  originally we were told it would be 5 hours until they could get him in for surgery, so I guess we were really excited about him not having to wait).  but anyways blah-blah-blah.  prayers were answered and surgery went very well;  thankfully kip is safe at home and resting and doing much better than he was a few days ago.

// two // I went to Target on Sunday morning to pick up some groceries and meds for kip, and I was all excited because I had seen on instagram that the new 2015 sugar paper planners were out.  alas, no planners to be found.  I was excited for a cute and affordable new planner. however, I DID make it out of target without buying anything superfluous – I stuck to my list 100% – which is definitely the first time that has ever happened.

// three // mackenzie horan from design darling posted about the lively show on her friday links.  I had ever heard of it before and now I absolutely love it.  I downloaded a few of the podcasts and listened to them while I was tiptoeing around this weekend making sure not wake kipper up when he fell asleep.  how sweet eats was the first one I listened to, I love her blog, especially the “crumbs” section where she just rambles about anything.  shocking that I enjoy the long rambling posts the most , right?

// four // ummmmm something tells me there is no way that Tom Cruise and Lilo is possible.  this may possibly rank as one of the most ridiculous magazine cover stories ever.  there is just no way.

// five // did you see the crazy pants wallenda walk across the tightrope in chicago last night? it was seriously unreal.  {I was very jealous of the people that live in the condos in that building and could watch it from their balcony.  it must have been insane to see in person.}

// six // I used our le creuset dutch oven for the first time on sunday to make an incredible recipe I’ll be sharing tomorrow.  I understand all the hoopla around them – I love it love it love it.  For some reason it made me feel super married and chef like and grown up.  but then I read the pottery barn teen magazine that was delivered and wanted 90 things in it, and I felt like my true immature inner 13 year old again. (like…. when I wrote dutch oven up there I giggled internally because how often do you hear dutch oven when it is referring to a cooking tool and not…. ya know….)
