:: FRIDAY THINGS + DIY ::

January 6, 2017

:: FRIDAY THINGS + DIY ::
I hope you’re all having a great start to the weekend!
I made it to a Flywheel class this morning before
preparing for the “state of emergency” with our “snowpocalypse” in Georgia.

The Timehop app kills me because somehow things are always perfectly timed.
I of course am having a good laugh at the city freaking out about 1-4 inches of snow in Georgia.
I get it I get it.  There are no plows or salt trucks here and its all hills and windy roads. And 2 years ago people were stranded in their cars for hours or sleeping at the office and it was a nightmare.  I TOTALLY GET IT.  It’s just hilarious that now because of that the city has to basically shut down an entire day early so that they don’t get blamed for the worst winter-storm-plan EVER, and so that people can hunker down as if it’s going to be the hardest 48 hours of their lives.
but I digress…..
so….this came up in my time hop this morning

On this day 3 years ago, I had to go to work in -43 degree wind chill (I can’t remember the real temp, I just focused on the “feels like” and YES it felt like it) by taking the train and then walking to work.
I had to WALK TO WORK in that, and everyone here is literally acting like it’s the end of the world.
But anyways….. cheers to a cozy winter weekend!
I’m interested to see how this “state of emergency” plays out!
As I mentioned earlier this week, we hosted a small group at our place for New Years !
A lot of you asked out my Champagne Bubbles DIY so I wanted to share, even though yes, New Years is 359 days way.
I tend to do things late on the blog.  You know that.
I still haven’t even posted about our Christmas vacation 🙂 so stay tuned…..
I figure, Christmas and New Years may be over,
but Awards Season is just beginning and this would work perfectly for that.
It was too easy and TOO CUTE (if you ask me) not to share!
I think it would be perfect for the Golden Globes this weekend or upcoming Oscar parties with your girlfriends!
and if you want to take advantage of the post-Christmas decor sales (which are AMAZING) I also think it’d be cute with pink and red ornaments for Valentine’s brunches, etc…… when I find an easy craft I really don’t drop it….. prepare to see this bad boy year after year!

My first tree and ornaments when I was out of college all came from Target in one of those huge jumbo bins.  They sell them year after year so I’m sure you’ve seen them.  It’s a ton of plastic ornaments for about $20.
I didn’t have varying sizes, which they recommend, but it still turned out SO cute.
I had Kip cut the hangers for me and then it was a matter of minutes before it was all set!

based on champagne bubbles from The Kitchen on Food Network

All you need is
A champagne bottle – I used a jumbo one that we got for New Years
Needle nose pliers, to cut the hanger
A wire hanger
Christmas Ball ornaments, they used clear, I used gold and silver.

Cut the hanger so that one edge is straight and the other has the top/curved edge.  Then just thread the ornaments of various sizes, starting with smaller ones if you have them, and building all the way up.  Pop the hanger in the bottle and you are all set to party!

I had two sticks in two smaller champagne bottles since we hadn’t popped the jumbo bottle prior to guests arriving, and then I switched both sticks over into the one jumbo.

as Ina would say,
HOW EASY IS THAT?!
and as my husband says,
“I don’t think anyone is as excited about the champagne bubbles as you are.”
Whatever.

I also made take-home Hangover Helper bags for our friends.
I included : water, lemon, fish oil, aspirin, green tea, and a detox tea.
I don’t know what came over me but I was feeling crafty the day of!

There was tons of yummy food that I got zero photos of 🙁 so I am just going to skip that part……

I wore jeans and OTK boots with my feather racerback tank and this blazer that I am obsessed with.
//   BLACK NOTCH COLLAR BLAZER   //   FEATHER RACERBACK TANK   //

my brain is truly fried after this week.
I’ve been sitting here for 5 minutes trying to remember all of the other things I wanted to include in this post, and you know how I ramble, so I promise it was A. LOT.

All I can think of is :
I forgot to mention in my Coffee Talk post that Nick’s job just isn’t even mentioned AT ALL on The Bachelor.  Remember when it used to Andrew Firestone and all of these successful men and now they don’t even necessarily have a job?  Nick’s job is literally just a reality-TV person.  Same with Ben Higgins.  They used to have jobs, and now are “formerly” employed. Like Ben’s fiancé Lauren who is no longer a flight attendant.  And now contestants don’t even have to have legitimate jobs.

Anyways….. just think it’s hilarious that they are truly going to have a Bachelor for an entire season that literally doesn’t have a job and they aren’t even going to mention employment of any kind.
So pathetic.

In case you missed it,
 on The Sarcastic Blonde this week :
Coffee Talk
Wishlist Wednesday with killer tops under $100
New Year New Promises

An update on my resolutions for Week One :

I have worked out every day this week! I am trying to do 31 straight days for the month of January so we’ll see how that goes.
I made three amazing recipes this week and I will be sharing them next week!
One resolution I have succeeded fully on is my “3 new recipes a month” —  I already did it in one week!
I worked really hard on my sleep hygiene and didn’t look at my computer or phone after 10 PM, and I still didn’t fall asleep for around 1-2 hours every night 🙂 OH well.

Ummmmm when I think of all of my other ramblings I’ll share them this weekend!
But have a great weekend and get excited for the Golden Globes!
I am giddy with excitement at having an awards show red carpet to look forward to!

Cheers to a great weekend!

:: GIFT GUIDE : THE HOSTESS ::

December 9, 2016

:: GIFT GUIDE : THE HOSTESS ::
My second post of the day!?  WHO AM I?!
See my FRIDAY THINGS post from earlier this morning below.
not being able to sleep is benefitting you all today 🙂

Tis the season for parties and cocktails and entertaining!
This is arguably the most social time of the year, so hostess gifts need to be ready to go out the door with you to all of your festive occasions.

It can be hard to give someone something special as a token for hosting you at a party; it’s especially difficult if you don’t know a persons taste, or more often if it’s the kind of person that has everything!
But there are so many amazing little gifts, at equally amazing prices, that will wow any hostess and really show how much you care!

Everyone has a cookie cutters, but one you can personalize for any occasion?!
Everyone has an apron, but one that looks like an adorable dress that you can wear while you finish up in the kitchen? Yes, please!
Everyone has pot holders, but polka dotted ones with gold!?
alright you get the idea…… enjoy some favorite finds below!
and don’t even get me started on the little mini bar cart
 for drinks and canapés! too cute!

column 1 : //  CUSTOMIZABLE COOKIE CUTTER  // EMOJI COCKTAIL NAPKINS  // LOVELY CUTTING BAORD //
column 2 : //  EMBELLISHED APRON  //  PINEAPPLE MEASURING CUPS  //
column 3 : //  POLKA DOT BAR SET  // GOLD COUNTDOWN FLUTES  //  TORTOISE SERVING SET  //

column 1 ://  VOLUSPA MERCURY GLASS CANDLE  // ULTIMATE APPETIZER COOKBOOK // KNOT SERVING SET  //
column 2 : //  POLKA DOT POT HOLDERS  //  MINI CART DRINK AND CANAPE DISPLAY  //
column 3 : //  NAVY + GOLD PEDASTAL BOWL //  MARBLE + WOOD CUTTING BOARD // GOLD 4-IN-1 BAR TOOL  //

//  CUSTOMIZABLE COOKIE CUTTER  //
this is perhaps my favorite gift of the entire list.
it’s not just a one-time customizable cookie stamp, but you can change the letters out over and over again depending on the occasion!
and it’s only $15!!!

//  EMOJI COCKTAIL NAPKINS  //
fun and different and unexpected!

// LOVELY CUTTING BAORD //
an adorable cheese + cutting board is always a perfect gift option for anyone.
the gold detailing instantly makes it seem fancier.

//  EMBELLISHED APRON  //
this is just the cutest thing ever.  you can throw this over your outfit while finishing up dinner and cocktails and still look nice for any occasion.

//  PINEAPPLE MEASURING CUPS  //
we all pineapple are all the rage right now….. this would be so cute sitting out on the counter as a kitchen accessory while not in use.

//  POLKA DOT BAR SET  //
cute and easy gift to give – and you can never have too many bottle openers when having a party.  if you’re anything like me somehow everyone is always hunting for it and you have no idea where it is!

//  GOLD COUNTDOWN FLUTES  //
I have numbered wine glasses that I got as an engagement gift and love them.
these not only help with the “was this my glass?” predicament, but these are perfect for a New Years Eve celebration!

//  TORTOISE SERVING SET  //
we still somehow don’t have a cake serving set?
I am obsessed with tortoise shell so I love these pieces.

//  VOLUSPA MERCURY GLASS CANDLE  //
ever since receiving a large one of these mercury glass candles I am obsessed.
it perfectly completes a coffee table or nook anywhere in your house too which is an added bonus.

//  ULTIMATE APPETIZER COOKBOOK //
you can never have too many cookbooks!
and appetizers are my favorite food of all 🙂 I could do sides and apps and no main dish all day everyday.

//  KNOT SERVING SET  //
perfectly classic, any lady would love it.

//  POLKA DOT POT HOLDERS  //
I don’t know about you, but my pot holders look absolutely NOTHING like this.
I am obsessed.  they are just too cute.

//  MINI CART DRINK AND CANAPE DISPLAY  //
anything mini is an instant win for me, but a mini bar cart to display your treats and cocktails!? be still my heart.
this would be such a crowd pleaser at a party for presentation.

//  NAVY + GOLD PEDASTAL BOWL //
gorgeous serving piece in my favorite colors.

//  MARBLE + WOOD CUTTING BOARD //
there’s no such thing as too many serving pieces!

// GOLD 4-IN-1 BAR TOOL  //
this aesthically pleasing bar tool will look great sitting on the bar, and then instantly transforms into an ice breaker, corkscrew, liquid measurer, and bottle opener all in one!

:: GIFT GUIDE : FITNESS LOVER ::

November 30, 2016

:: GIFT GUIDE : FITNESS LOVER ::
First of all, my apologies in thinking that Ladies of London had started when it hadn’t!  AHH!
 I am delusional.  The shame and guilt for leading you all astray is real.

The season premiere was last night — I hope I didn’t mess anyone and their DVR’s up!

We decorated our tree last night, so I was only able to watch This is Us last night and part of the Lea Remini Scientology show.  Was everything amazing?! Ladies of London?! I have some serious catching up to do tonight for Coffee Talk!

Today I am back with another gift guide!!

Today’s gifts are geared towards the fitness lover.

 These also make great gifts since January is right around the corner.  If you or anyone you know is like the majority, new years resolutions will include being healthier or working out more, or simply trying to cook more meals at home, and all of the gifts below are perfect for that!

:: GIFT GUIDE FOR THE FITNESS LOVER ::

FITBIT ALTA  //   SWELL WATER BOTTLE  //  EXERCISE? OR EXTRA FRIES? TANK

VEGGIE SPIRALIZER  //  SKINNYTASTE FAST + SLOW COOKBOOK  //  NUTRIBULLET

COLORBLOCK LEGGINGS  //  FOAM ROLLER  //  AFTER THIS WE’RE GETTING PIZZA GYM BAG and BOTTLE  //  DIAMOND EAR BUDS

If you’ve been debating a fitness tracker for awhile, the Fitbit Alta seems to be the best option there is.  It has amazing reviews unlike other trackers or older models.  This one also can show text messages and calendar alerts in addition to monitoring your sleep, activity levels, and more.

By now I’m sure you know how much everyone loves their Swell water bottles  for keeping their water cold or other drinks warm.  The hard part is choosing a design! I love this beautiful blue ikat pattern so much but the options are endless.

You know I’m a sucker for a graphic tee. I just can’t help myself.  And one involving fries? Sold! This “Exercise? I thought you said Extra Fries!” tank is too darn cute.

Everyone is all about the spiralizer this year!! Make pasta-free and beautiful dishes without the guilt, and avoid paying lots of money for pre-spiralized veggies at places like Whole Foods, with this inexpensive favorite kitchen gadget.

It’s a Love/Hate relationship with this foam roller.

But it’s a necessity and hurts so good after just a couple of minutes.

The nutribullet was one of the best purchases I made this year. Seriously.

I bought a refurbished one off of Amazon for super cheap incase I ended up not liking it, and I love it.  It blends through everything in seconds for a quick and delish breakfast or snack.

Nothing gets you more in the mood to workout than cute clothes!  I love these colorblock leggings and they are on sale for only $22 today. Workout clothes don’t have to be expensive to be cute!

There is no cuter gym bag in the world than this after this we’re getting pizza workout bag and bottle. Sometimes (most of the time) you need that meal as motivation 🙂

Some girly bling for your music with diamond ear buds ; nothing worse than working out without music as a distraction (or TV/Netflix in my case….)

I absolutely love the first cookbook from skinnytaste.  I know that this skinnytaste fast and slow cookbook will be no different, and especially in the winter months it is so nice to come home to warm a meal in the crockpot after work!

Other ideas any girl is sure to love:

 A Classpass membership (the first month is only $19!), classes to their favorite studio, or joining Tone It Up.   And as I’m sure we all know, don’t go gifting workout classes to someone who has no interest …. something tells me that will end badly for you 🙂 so know your audience!

Something no one would ever be upset with would be a massage of course!

Pamper someone for all the hard work they’ve put in and work out those sore muscles!

Happy Gifting!

home updates + holiday decorating

December 15, 2014

home updates + holiday decorating
image
hope you all had a great weekend!
I had a pretty perfect one: relaxing with just enough activity.
I had a christmas party with my girlfriends, a gorgeous and so special baby shower, and a christmas date night with my husband. Sunday consisted of wrapping gifts, watching more christmas movies (The Holiday this weekend!), and baking cookies.

oh, and friday was national ugly christmas sweater day and they had us dress for the occasion at work so I whipped out this pretty little gem.
hawt.
here are a few snapshots, and a look at the piece we found to use as a makeshift pantry.

we found these mercury glass trees at marshals and they are just perfect.  they match our vases from pottery barn with a mercury glass base and some candles we have throughout the living room.
at $10 each, they were a steal.  I didn’t know where to put them yet so here they awkwardly are with our Nest thing that I mess up on a daily basis when trying to change the temperature.

the same place where we found our sideboard, Nadeau, is where we found my other favorite piece.
our kitchen has pretty great cabinet space, but there is no designated pantry and therefor no easy, useful space to put all of our food.
when we came across this piece I knew it would work perfectly.
I love the open space in the middle to decorate for the holidays or to have as a makeshift bar set up for other times of the year.
 I’d ultimately like to change the knobs out but haven’t found anything just yet.
 there were two poinsettias,
but it took me no time to kill the other one.  shocker.

vase from pottery barn
 crate and barrel hurricanes, pottery barn frosted pinecones
I kinda want to change out the hurricanes to this cute set up instead

fireplace garland from HomeGoods, a Christmas dream-land with a parking lot that is holiday hell and I’m lucky we made it out alive.
 prepping for some holiday cookies

 trying to finish up some christmas cards, and since I still haven’t bought any twinkle lights for my vase I just put a ton of regular lights in it.  not quite the same effect, but what the hell.
 my husband thinks it’s hideous.
  I think it’s free so he should be real proud of me.
I mean they are totally as pretty as these.  Identical.

I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving.
It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving is already over, and we are officially in Christmas season now.
my Forever21 top was a perfect holiday ensemble that doesn’t break the bank at a whopping $10.

much needed hangover helper mimosa // forever 21 top (black version) //  piperlime leather skirt (identical + under $50)

Kip and I went to buy our first real tree yesterday, and we got a cute little baby tree, about 5 feet.
The lights are strung but no ornaments yet, but I had to share the greatest gift for anyone and everyone.
A simple remote control for your tree.
No more bending over every morning or night plugging or unplugging the tree.
The best $15 bucks ever spent.
remote outlet converter

How easy is that?
I want to get this for EVERYTHING now; it’s like the modern day clapper.

we still have some more holiday decorations to get finished up this week and then I’ll share more pictures.
I need to pick up some of these lights to put in our glass hurricanes.
starry string lights

 it’s official : Love Actually is back on Netflix.
so kick of your first of 467 viewings this week 🙂

one last thing.
I came across Paul Rudd’s fraternity composite picture.

I meannnnn even with that hair he is totally still in my top 5.

hope you all have a day filled with love!

I got all crafty and re-created the pin that I see every year on Pinterest with my flowers.

Isn’t she pretty???
eat your heart out martha stewart.

I’m trying to figure out what Valentine related baked good to make tonight for dessert.

We celebrated last night with drinks at Bavette’s and dinner at Gilt Bar.
I can honestly say it was one of the best dates we have ever had.
I’m a lucky lady.

I’ll work on a weekend Coffee Talk because we have to discuss Vanderpump Rules reunion part one.

 It’s so damn good I just can’t handle it.
Every 5 minutes got better and better.  It was riveting.
