:: Favorite Smoothie + Food Finds ::

Today I wanted to share my favorite smoothie that I have been making for breakfast,
along with a few other healthy meals and snacks I’ve been loving to get back on track after an indulgent summer.

I am always on the hunt for new podcasts, and always looking for new healthy blogs or instagram accounts to follow, and a few weeks ago a podcast led to me to Kelly LeVeque of Be Well by Kelly.

I came across the podcast The Skinny Confidential and the first episode I listened to was when Kelly was a guest. I usually download certain episodes from a podcasts that is new to me based on the guest or topic to try out first.

Kelly was talking about her new book Body Love and I loved everything I heard in her podcast. I’ll talk more about her book in a separate post, but the main thing I wanted to try after listening to her was one of her Fab Four Smoothies that can keep you full for 4-6 hours. Yes. You read that correctly: keep you full from breakfast until lunch. I was like “um? yeah right.”

First, all I did was order some MCT Oil to add to my smoothies because I had never heard of it before.

MCT Oil is a super healthy fat – and don’t let the name or “coconuts” throw you off, it really is odorless and tasteless but gives such a rich texture to the smoothie.

I also ordered Hemp Seeds to add in to my smoothies for more protein.

I also add this to omelettes, bowls, salads, so many things and it adds the tiniest bit of yummy nutty flavor.

I was amazed how these two additions not only made my smoothie taste great and have an even better consistency, but it kept me full so. much. longer.
So I ended up getting her book and have been making an
amped up version of my favorite Peanut Butter Smoothie for breakfast.

The key here is to use less than 1/4 cup of fruit, or ideally none, because it really throws off your blood sugar and sends you crashing and craving.

Recipe for a Fab Four Smoothie :
Superfoods + Unlimited Greens
1-2 Tbsp Fiber + 1-2 Tbsp Fat
1 Serving of Protein
Liquid
no more than 1/4 cup fruit, or ideally no fruit

Peanut Butter Breakfast Smoothie

Cuisine: Healthy Breakfast

Serves: 1 Smoothie

A healthy breakfast in minutes that will keep you full all morning with healthy protein, fat, fiber, and greens.

Ingredients

1-2 cups Almond Milk (adjust based on preference for thickness)
½ Frozen Banana
Big Handful of Spinach
1.5 Scoops Perfect Fit Protein Powder (recommends 15-30g depending on your need)
1 Tablespoon MCT Oil
1 Tablespoon Chia Seeds
1 Tablespoon Hemp Seeds
2 Tablespoons PB2
Ice

Instructions

Blend all ingredients, adding as much ice or almond milk as needed for the consistency you like, and enjoy!

It truly shocks me how full this keeps me, so I have been trying to do this for breakfast a few times a week, and eventually make it a regular thing. I am so used to having smoothies as my mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack at work so it’s taking some getting used to to treat it as an entire meal. Plus, I really like having a snack between meals, and wrapping my head around being full enough to not need one feels strange.

I have some summer fun (+ Italy fun…. promise I’ll finish those posts soon!) pounds to shed, so I’m hoping to incorporate more from her book. It’s the most anti-diet book I have ever picked up, and is really based on the science of balancing your blood sugar. Protein + Fat + Fiber + Greens are most important to avoid sugar spikes. I have been a bit of a fruit addict lately – like, A LOT of fruit – and this shows how that spikes your blood sugar and makes you hungry soon after, etc. So I am trying to slowly incorporate more tips from Body Love about balancing your blood sugar, but so far I’m a believer based just on the smoothie thing alone!

Other Healthy Favorite Foods lately ……..

:: Wake Up Waffles ::

I had been having Wake Up Waffles for months as my breakfast. They are fresh, unprocessed, protein packed waffles shipped frozen to your door. I love two of them as a “sandwich” with PB2. It’s perfect to eat on the way to work in the car and I love the chocolate waffles with the PB2 the most.

:: PB2 ::

Clearly I have this regularly. PB2 really hits the spot if you are a peanut butter lover! It’s all natural, has no preservatives, and is low in calories and fat. Perfect for smoothies or to mix up and have with apple slices. You can make it as thick or thin as you like, so for a dipping sauce or a glaze for pancakes you can just add more water. I’ve seen it in every grocery store now, but you can order 2 big tub combo packs on Amazon for even less.

:: Dr. Praeger’s Veggie Cakes ::

Kip and I just started eating these last week after a co-worker made a batch at lunch. Oh. em. gee. Even my husband, an absolute meat lover, loves these. Get them crispy on the stove and they are so good with eggs for breakast or topped on a quinoa bowl or I even have them on the side or tossed in with a salad.
Publix + Whole Foods have these, and probably most groceries too,
and they also have kale cakes, broccoli cakes, sweet potato, etc.

with brown rice or quinoa bowls

We’re making an effort to cut back on meat after learning a little too much and being a little grossed out…. slash we are also hypocrites and will never stop eating meat, so we’re just trying to reduce or buy grass-fed/organic at home. When we’re out, we usually eat meat.

:: RX Bars + 22 Days Bars ::

The Peanut Butter Rx Bar and the Blueberry Rx bar are hands down my favorite with as few ingredients as I have ever seen in a bar. Trader Joe’s has the boxes you can buy for the best deal,
otherwise online they do coupon codes.
The 22 Days Bar is a great high protein low sugar option.

:: Publix Premium Salads ::

I am addicted to these when I don’t have time to meal prep or bring food to work. They are absolutely delicious – and the garlic dressing in the Baby Kale Salad is like pure crack. If anyone knows a knock-off of the recipe, please let me know, but I have tried making 2 garlic vinaigrette recipes and they taste nothing like it!
I also add hemp seeds to this usually for some added protein, and it tastes great with it.

:: Dandelion Root Tea + Green Tea ::

Did you hear that a glass of dandelion root + green tea + lemon erases all of your bad choices on the weekend? Huh? No? You haven’t? Oh….. well I decided one day that it is a fact, and now it’s on the internet, and the internet is true. So. Yep.
I do an AM and a PM drink of one dandelion root tea bag, one green tea bag, and the juice of one lemon. And instantly I am just the epitome of health.
Similar to when I eat any of the foods listed above, even if they are following a large fry at Chick-fil-A. All is erased, and I am cleansed 🙂
But really, I am so delusional that I have convinced myself this drink will cure any colds or hangovers and basically chug it until it actually does.

and theennnnnn Friday at 4 to Sunday at midnight I lose all self control, decide to be like Bethenny Frankel and always come from “A Place of Yes”,

and then Monday morning, it’s back to the delicious and healthy PB2 Smoothie 🙂

I had my first music festival experience this weekend and WOW was it a lot. The people watching was absolutely phenomenal, and at times alarming; I was definitely not prepared! It was a lot more crowded than I had anticipated, but Bruno Mars was absolutely incredible. He’s just so talented it’s nuts.
We were pretty far back but I got up on Kip’s shoulders for a good bit and loved every minute.

These floral shorts were my attempt at a “festival look”. They look best with the white silk tank, but I figured something would spill on it, so I wore the scalloped hem pink instead.

Kip did some more home projects and built out some stones off the new porch

I watched all 5 episodes that have aired so far of The Murder of Laci Peterson and loved every minute of it.
I also have realized for the millionth time that marathoning a show makes it so much better…..

No one really wowed me too much?

Emmy Rossum made my list really just for that ring. I couldn’t stop staring at it!!
And Michelle Pheifer because I just couldn’t believe how great she looks still!

And a few that I didn’t :
Kristin Cavallari’s dress wasn’t bad, but it needed a little bit more fabric on that silver bust part – it cut her at such an awkward spot on her chest? I cannot even with Jane Fonda’s hair. And I wish Ariel Winter would stop leading with skin, skin, skin every day for every look.

I thought Stephen Colbert did a great job! I was so happy for Sterling K. Brown’s This is Us win – I cannot wait for that show to return!
And I definitely did a rewind when I saw Nicole Kidman kiss Alexander Skarsgard on the lips in front of Keith Urban! but I guess during filming they had lots of scenes doing far more than that, so they must have had to get close?!

Cheers to Friday!!

I hope you all had a great week! It was a (sadly) short work week for most of us in Georgia with the hurricane coming through. My cousin + his girlfriend (and cat – I earned my good karma points because to say I am not a cat person is putting it midlly!) stayed with us from Florida for several days so I’m all thrown off from my usual routine!
Kip’s been back in constant travel mode for work, so I’m excited to finally have him home today for the weekend.

We are going to Music Midtown this weekend, which is a music festival here in Atlanta. I haven’t been to a music festival since…. um….. I was 18 probably?! You may recall when I talked about Kip going to festivals and me saying “Adios! Have fun!” because I feel like I missed my window of fun to really enjoy them.
Hashtag porta-potty after every beer and losing all your friends in a crowd anxiety.
However, Mr. Bruno Mars is the headliner Saturday night and I don’t care if a drunk teen pukes on my foot, I am going to see that little sex machine dancing on that stage!

although hopefully everyone controls themselves more than the kids at Lollapalooza in Chicago,
because I have heard horror stories.
But really, I am soooo excited to see Bruno Mars.
I’m dying to see him in actual full blown concert with his own set and everything, but this will have to do !!

He kills me. And I am so in love with his new song Versace on the Floor.
I know I could fit him in my pocket, but he is just so sexy when he’s up on that stage!

I’ll stop now…. but seriously, I can’t wait!

:: FLORAL MAXI DRESS ::
Today I wanted to share one of my favorite dresses (I actually got it in two colors because I love it so much!) that is a total steal at only $55. This maxi works great with the warmer weather we are still having here in the South (I am so excited for 80’s this weekend!) but would work great with booties and a neutral cardigan over it for cooler Fall temperatures as well!
It has a snap in the front that keeps it from being too revealing (or if ya feel like showing what ya got, you do you girl). The back has a hook closure that makes it a beautiful racerback with a little peek-a-boo of skin too. It cinches in at the waist before flowing back out and gives such a flattering shape.
I have this floral print and the blush floral print, but I am tempted to get the solid black maxi or the grey or teal as well. With heels, no one would know that this dress is as inexpensive as it is!!

I love layering vests in the fall, and this go-to vest of mine now comes in an adorable new print.

My ultimate lust of the week : this striped sequined Tracy Reese dress. I hunted and hunted the older version of this to go on sale but never found it. I am obsessed with it.

This mirrored tray has two of my favorite decor elements of all time: quatrefoils + gold.

Have you heard about these Bachelor Winter Games? I mean, does it ever end? and this comes right after I say in Coffee Talk that I can’t handle another show with the Twins, Chad, etc.
This sounds crazy…. but we won’t have to face it until February 2018 apparently.

I’m sure many of you can relate to this woman’s Hilarious Rant about her Husband’s Fantasy Football. I will never understand the allure of this, and feel like this must be how my husband feels about basically everything that interest me.

Your favorite Fixer Upper’s, Chip + Jo, are heading to Target! I have heard a lot of commentary from friends and more about this, but I think it is great. I don’t think it “waters down their brand” or anything of that sort and I’m just so so happy for them because they deserve so much success (and I’m happy for myself that I can snag some things without going to their store in Waco!) t!

DWTS starts on Monday (YAY! A 2 hour Monday show I can really get behind!) but my beloved Julianne Hough won’t be returning as a judge this season. I love her and always loved seeing what she would wear, too! I wish her and her brother would go back to both being dancers on the show!
and speaking of her brother, I had no idea he was dating one of the troupe dancers
for two years now! where have I been?

NY + NJ residents : ClassPass just got a whole lot better for you. (Jealous! I love my ClassPass!)

I am in love with the dress Jennifer Aniston wore for this Harper’s Bazaar Cover. Turns out we have more in common than I thought: she, too, wishes she could keep tanning without sunscreen (preach girl preach!). She also is an apple cider vinegar drinker (cheers!) and will take any vitamins or try any new health thing there is. I, too, added activated charcoal last week to my regimen (it’s pathetic, I will literally do anything). But hey, if it’s good enough for Jennifer Aniston……

DISCUSS AMONGST YA-SELVES……

:: Bachelor in Paradise ::

I’m very disappointed in myself that I was happy for this to be the final episode of BIP. I’m exhausted. I feel extreme shame and guilt over it – what has happened to me? It’s definitely not maturity… and I am totally close in age to these 24 year old girls, so I can’t possibly imagine what it is?

The ending is a little different this year, since it is pretty obvious that the only people actually into each other are Taylor and Derek (I had completely forgotten about Raven and Adam to be honest).
They are pretending that Lacey and Canadian Daniel are a couple though? I just feel worse and worse for her with each passing episode of this show, and my comment from last week about her needing to read He’s Just Not That Into You still stands. Daniel is a loser and an ass; she needs to be RUNNING from this kid not obsessing over him.

Everyone except those 3 couples breaks up; some are obvious but a few are quite surprising.
Dean dumps D.Lo!
After playing Kristina and acting like he wanted D.Lo,
he says he in love with Kristina and misses her and then cries over Kristina?

Pretty sure he’s just crying because he realized his reputation is ruined. Also pretty sure D.Lo couldn’t care less and just wanted more air-time/publicity because she has zero reaction and is basically just like “Mmkcoolbye.”
She walks off and we all see the HUGE BUTTERFLY TATTOS ON THE BACK OF HER ANKLES. I meannnnnn. Obviously no opinion here… none.

Amanda (Baby Voice mother of children with gladiator sandals) dumps Social Media Influencer/Ken Doll Robby and it is AMAZING. He makes me crazy. He probably was ready to meet with Neil Lane and pick out a diamond ring, film solo shot of himself staring into the ocean and back at the ring, and ride this thing out as long as possible.

Scallop Fingers refuses to leave Paradise with Jack Stone and I fluctuate back and forth between feeling badly for him and wanting him to LOCK IT UP and quit asking 72 times to “leave holding hands, that’s all, just holding hands.” WTF does that even mean?

We find out about who is still a couple and who is not during the live studio session with Chris Harrison, but not before we bring out Corinne and DeMario ONE MORE TIME.

I am SO OVER this situation that I literally cannot even discuss any of it with words. Done with it.

Dean has prepared for his witching hour and is brought to the stage to re-live his playboy love triangle with Kristina and D.Lo. He is crying, again, and seems so upset and hearfelt. But right when I think and he thinks he’s clearing his name, D.Lo and Kristina expose that he reached out to BOTH of them after the show and was trying to flip flop AGAIN between both of them. SERIOUSLY?!?!

Amanda and Robby reveal that they got back together outside the show, but that it ended up not working out in the end. That nice little bit of closure explodes when the twins reveal the real reason they broke up is a photo of Robby possibly cheating.
Robby full on denies this and I kind of love that he is called out and that there is proof.

How can he say this is not proof?
Robby responded in a tweet with a lengthy social media attack that he begins by saying is not a social media attack.

to which I say……

Lacey reveals that Daniel lied to her face about falling for her, and she got completely played. (No shite Sherlock!! Seriously where are this girls friends to tell her to snap out of it!?)

And then Daniel watches the entire recap of the date and what he said, and denies saying any of it. “What? I never said any of the things I just watched myself say?”

Raven and Adam are together and honestly they seem like the only normal couple to come out of all of this. They’re just dating and not pretending like they’re soulmates after 8 days on a beach drinking their brains out, so, slow clap for you two.

Finally, Taylor and Derek. Yawn. Sorry, not sorry, but I really dislike Taylor. Every moment of her this whole Paradise season was like nails on a blackboard. She thinks she is so much better than these people, and news flash, you aren’t.
There is all kinds of awkward commentary about how important it is to Taylor to, basically, get naked in the fantasy suite. Derek even goes so far as to verbally say that sex that night is very important to her. Can literally nothing be off limits or left to the imagination on these shows now? It drives me nuts that someone that acts like she is so mature will 1. Go on Bachelor in Paradise and 2. say things like “I took in all of Derek in the fantasy suite” and stare at the camera all giggly to reinforce her meaning.

And then they get engaged.

And again…. this is me.

Can we please be done with the Canadian Daniel and Twins gimicks on this show next Paradise please? Can they be retired? I’m begging. And Amanda. Please. No more.

editors note: One of the things that I realize has made me lose interest in this season, like I mentioned in the beginning: that I already knew that an engagement was happening and that Amanda and Robby had broken up. It’s not as fun when everything is spoiled before you see it!

:: RH of Dallas ::

It seems as though Kameron’s story line is not wavering and will be the exact same every week: constantly telling us she is a smart blonde despite acting dumb, and a never ending discussion of pink dog food. Both of these are combined this week in her effort to pitch her dog food to her husband in hopes of him investing.

She makes a pink poster board (shocker) with random words on it like
Sparkle, Nutritionist, Chemist, Best ingredients, Woof. Um…. What?

Cary and Stephanie join Brandi (and her two children that are just as wild as season one) in Memphis to visit her Grandpa. Is no one going to the tell the man that just had a stroke to quit cooking up racks of ribs and drinking wine? No? No one?

Cary is just glad to be in Memphis and have a break from her husband, which leads to one of my pet peeves: When people on television are married and talk about all the sex they are having; and then even more so when they “complain” about how they do it nonstop. It’s so awkward. It’s like sooooo are you saying you have a great sex life with your husband or that it sucks that you have to constantly have sex with your husband and you hate it? Because either way GROSS! I DON’T WANT TO KNOW!

but I digress……

We don’t see D’Andra in a very good light this week. She is very upset that her step-son that moved in with them still has not taken any steps to find a job or go back to school or further himself in life. He decides he’s done living with them and wants to move back to South Carolina. She kinda goes a little nuts…. I want to give her the benefit of the doubt that there is probably more to this story than we know, but when her husband says “you scare me when you get mad” and she says she wants to pluck her stepsons eyes out and put them on the table I’m like Ummm Deep Breath D’Andra…. Deep breath…. let’s not go all “Sandpaper Death Threats” ala Crazy Carnie LeeAnne right now. Also…. that was the calmest “upset” kid I have ever seen and I think D’Andra doesn’t realize how big of a $#*t those lazy millennia’s can be! She’s lucky! Oh I jest…. kind of? Not really…..

but seriously…. how was he not laughing in her face at what was on her head while she yelled at him?

Much like LeeAnne herself, LeeAnne’s closet and extreme collection of thigh high (and sparkly thigh high boots) greatly alarmed me.

Meghan King Edmonds has a hormonal flip-out on a walk with Lydia when Lydia tried to say Meghan did the same thing as Kelly by asking if she was cheating on her husband.
I do agree that there is a difference between what Kelly did and what Meghan did, but not a difference so much that what Meghan did wasn’t wrong. She did the same thing, Kelly’s was just a bit worse.

Was Peggy in this episode? Oh yes.
This time she pretended to not comprehend the phrase “does a bear shite in the woods?”

Shannon celebrates her birthday at home and reveals/claims that David has not held her hand in months. can’t handle her story lines…. they are so sad!!!
David makes the situation better the same way he always does: by not making it better and instead just staring blankly and slowly saying a few words in a deep midwest accent. And then they both do what they always do which makes me so uncomfortable I squirm on my sofa: discuss their marital issues at length in front of their young daughters, this time in the prayer before dinner.

Vicki celebrates her birthday with a party at her house, and wants all of the attention so badly that she requests the guests wear black and white and she will arrive in red. Apparently she thinks she is Oprah.

Watching her walk out onto the patio and have no one turn
and acknowledge her was the highlight of my night.
Also, this dress is not flattering in the slightest.

Are we really still talking about the Eddie being gay rumor? Is this really the best Vicki can come up with? Getting Tamra’s former Man-of-Honor at her wedding to be like “uh, yeah, I saw him kissing a dude”.
This dude is as hungry for air time as Gretchen and Slade. (I laughed when I saw that Gretchen was described as “Vicki’s Friend” and Slade as “Gretchen’s Fiance”. I feel like it’s been 10 years since those two “got engaged”. The rumor of it being a story-line for the show to save her spot on the cast, with no real intention of marriage, is clearly completely true).

Similar to BIP Scandal with Corinne and DeMario, I feel like I got nothin’.
Nothin’. No new news, nothing interesting, nothing.
I enjoyed my-boyfriend-andy-cohen’s dramatic intro though!.

I’m sure most of you watched Trading Spaces when you were younger, the design show on TLC where neighbors swapped houses and redid a room on a budget.

It was definitely one of the first hit design shows and aired from 2000 to 2008. They are bringing it back, and almost every single person that was on the original is coming back with it!

:: Jackhole of the Week ::

I like to keep everything on The Sarcastic Blonde as lighthearted and meaningless as possible. I try to never talk about anything real world or heavy duty because I like it as an escape from daily life, and especially from the heavy and horrible things that occur. But goodness, there’s been so much lately that it has been hard not discussing it. Especially with 9/11 falling this week at the same time as Irma and immediately following Harvey it was such a heavy, heavy week.
I just feel the need to say that of course I am sending thoughts and prayers (and donations) to those in Texas, Florida, and more who are going through so much with the Hurricanes.
I don’t like using this platform to preach (except to PAH-REACH if you know what I mean) so I try to keep quiet about real life, but this week was such a doozy for everyone. It’s always amazing to see everyone come together in these times though, even when life feel so divided at others.
