look at me….. starting the week off all positive and stuff.
I clearly typed this when it was still Sunday and not the crack of dawn on Monday.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

I think that Kip and I are quite possibly the only people in the country that did not venture out to a pumpkin patch or apple orchard this weekend.
but we do have a festive fall wreath on our front door that I shared on instagram.

and I bought striped pumpkins at trader joe’s if that counts?

UMMMMM Adele’s upcoming single was “teased” during a commercial break in the UK and I am so excited I can’t stand it.  I couldn’t have played her last album any more and this song sounds like her next album will be just as amazing.

check out the sneak peek here.

remember the kick ass little tikes car you used to cruise up and down the driveway in when you were a kid?

they make a legit adult size version, road safe, that goes up to 70 mph. (see more here)

kate hudson is always one of my favorites at award shows and this week was no different.

image

this was my favorite look from the whole night. she always looks gorgeous.

my favorite brunch addiction lately has been the Lemon Cottage Cheese Pancakes at Summer House.
I am not a ‘pancakes for brunch’ person and these things blow my mind.
the addiction is really strong and can’t be stopped.
I was searching for recipes to try at home, and came across this one from Martha Stewart.

lemon cottage cheese pancakes
I’ll hopefully be whipping these up next weekend!

:: weekend wears ::
in advance, please pardon my awful photography.
I will never figure out the art of a selfie, and never want to ask my husband to take a picture, or when I do they are AWFULLLLL. so I stick with the awkward selfie.

for the shopbop sale, I nabbed two under $100 pieces from BB Dakota.

this black poplin dress was perfect for a night out friday.
it’s hard to tell the detail of the fabric in my pics, but it looks and feels much more expensive than it is.  perfect dress for the upcoming holiday parties.
:: bb dakota dress ::
fit is true to size – sorry for awful pictures, even for me
we get zero light in the guest room and nighttime pics are especially dark.
I also got this sweater and have been living it, but unfortunately it appears to be sold out 🙁
I found several similar here, here here, and here

okayyyyy thats all I’ve got for today.
fingers crossed for a speedy end to monday!

we had a super busy weekend for our last weekend before we depart for our big trip!
it’s the final countdown…… 4 days until we leave for Italy!

we went to the billy joel concert at wrigley on thursday and it was incredible!
(amy schumer and jennifer lawrence even made an appearance, dancing on the piano to uptown girl and recreating her train wreck dance)
 we had a double date with our besties at one of our favorite neighborhood spots, crosby’s kitchen

 my friend had the genius idea to have us do a prosecco tasting with costco brand and a nice brand.
we were convinced we would choose the kirkland prosecco, and unfortunately we liked the more expensive one better.  damn.  oh well.  I’ll still drink anything I don’t care.

 we went to Indianapolis for a friends wedding and had an incredible time; still exhausted but very worth it.

 I ended up ordering the red dress I had posted about in the past (ignore lack of makeup and greasy hair I was sending pics to my mom to ask her opinion).   its a gorgeous color in person and the detailing is so pretty.

:: red lace dress ::
sizing tip : order down a size, the S was baggy and not flattering so the XS fit much better

I am working on a packing post and also will be sure to post my giant compilation of all the advice/tips/suggestions from all of you!
this is the bag I am using for my carry-on, and then I am only packing a carry on suitcase for the whole 15 days.  I test packed this weekend and surprisingly I am able to fit everything thanks to my serious research, and this carry on is half the reason.  this bag fits EVERYTHING. it is like mary poppins.  I can fit three pairs of shoes in the bottom zipper compartment.  its unreal.
{ sole society weekender bag }
I just have to get through the next 4 days of work,
 and then we jet off for our italian adventure!

:: weekend recap ::
hope you all had a great weekend 🙂
I saw that quote on instagram and had to laugh because that is always the first thing I do when I go to new arrivals on websites like shopbop and the such 🙂 sad but true.

friday I went to the cubs game with girlfriends, and the rest of the weekend was a bit more laid back which was nice.
the theme for the Bleachers  was 90’s day (if you’ve never been to Wrigley, always sit in the bleachers – it is so much more fun – like a big party!)
they gave out hot pink and hot yellow hats to everyone and played 90s music throughout the whole game.
 this picture cracked me up;  miami girls getting after their ballpark dogs.

needless to say we had even more fun than we already would have day drinking in Wrigley on a perfect 80 degree summer day 🙂

Saturday I blew my life savings at Target.  what else is new.
 it really was for trip necessities….

(okay fine. somehow two new pairs of underwear that I saw on the end of an aisle when I was grabbing some granola ended up in my cart because they were cheap and cute…. but otherwise it was all totally normal purchases).
everytime I have to buy new razorblades I feel like I am giving away my soul.

the next time my husband asks what I spent so much money on at the store I’m going to say its hairy legs and armpits or a credit card bill – his choice.

I had dinner at two of my favorite places in Chicago for girls dinners – Summer House and Big Star.  It was my first time to Big Star all summer and I forgot how amazing their patio is.
image

I’ve been watching Unbreakable Kimmy Shmidt on Netflix and it’s such a fun, easy show.  Mindless entertainment but still very entertaining and funny.
…….. annnnnd that’s all I’ve got.

:: weekend things ::
hope you all had a great weekend!
it was a gorgeous one here in Chicago, and the air and water show is always one of my favorite weekends.
I was able to get a tiny bit of a tan while we watched,
and still somehow made it to my Sunday morning SoulCycle class despite copious moscow mules on Saturday.

for a date night friday, I wore some pieces that are all accompanying me to Italy.
Nordstrom Rack has been a great place for cheap, adorable dresses.
I got this dress for $25! It doesn’t look cheap in person, the cut is so cute along the neckline, and they still have ALL SIZES in stock.  I couldn’t recommend it more.
{ strappy embroidered dress } $25, all sizes still available

The shoes I’m wearing are Loeffler Randall.  My friends recommended them whole heartedly – they wore them on trips abroad for days and said they were super comfortable and so far I completely agree.  I think they’ll be perfect for our trip, the soles have two big added pads of cushioning.
make sure you order up a size! I am always, always an 8 and I had to return mine and order and 8.5
I found two sites where they are marked down to $100 or less.
{ loeffler randall sandals } found for 40% off at 6 pm
and also saks off 5th has them for 60% off !!
shopbop has them in all colors and styles for full price.
always do a google shopping search before you buy anything because especially with shoes I always find big, big discounts!!

:: soulcycle ::
So, Sunday I got up bright and early and went to SoulCycle.
It was definitely intense, and my ladybits and buttocks are hurting in weird places (will never understand how people ride those bikes on a regular basis without, like, a temperpedic pillow hidden in their shorts between their legs)
my lady bits would disagree with Pink wholeheartedly.
HOWEVER, other than that I did REALLY enjoy it.
did I “$30 a class + $3 shoe rental” enjoy it? No.
(but first class is only 20! such a steal!
so totally being sarcastic thats a killing!)
Our instructor was good, I like that the room is dark, and the music is GREAT.
I wish he had been a little kookier/insane/prophetic like I have heard some of them could be.
if he had been spitting out lines like
then I SERIOUSLY think I would probably pay the ridiculous amount and go once or twice a month.  So I guess good thing he wasn’t saying things like that or calling me Unicorn because my paychecks would be disappearing faster than my sobriety on a Friday at 5.

and SIDE NOTE.
did you know that the instructor in Odd Mom Out during the fabulous Unicorn scene is LEGITIMATELY a soul cycle instructor? Her name is MB.
see it here : Mind. Blown.
TOO GOOD.  I can’t wait until next summer for more of that show 🙁

afterwards we went to brunch and this girl didn’t say a word to her boyfriend/husband the entire meal she was just staring at me in horror.

I wanted to turn to her and be like I KNOW I HAVE SWEAT STILL COMING DOWN MY FACE GET OVER IT LADY I DONT GLOW I SWEAT LIKE A FAT MAN.

OTHER side note : this article about what would grace kelly wear to SoulCycle was cute.
and I want the tory burch fitbit cover (only $35) but that would require me to get a fitbit….. and my little pedometer was only 10 bucks which is way better than the $100+ of a fitbit.
{ tory burch fitbit bracelet }

I am lusting hard core after this red dress and so tempted to get it.
unfortunately it does not fit into my Italy budget and don’t think it’ll happen.
I’ll also take her perfectly wavy locks…..
 but something tells me that won’t happen for me either. Damn.

hope you all had a wonderful weekend!!
Thursday I went with my girlfriends to the rooftop bar/restaurant at the Chicago Athletic Association called Cindy’s.

 there was a forever wait for dinner, so we did the next best thing and went to shake shack.

this was my first shake shack experience and HOLY GOOD LORD it was incredible.
incredible.

we had friends in town staying with us for a wedding this weekend and it was such a fun time.
brunch at summer house on saturday

the wedding was at the Palmer House, a hotel I had never been to before.
it was so beautiful.  stunningly beautiful and so ornate and vintagey.
I want to go back for drinks at their bar soon!
the bride was a supermodel!

 the band was possibly the best wedding band I have ever heard (ken arlen orchestra)
we all got VERY sweaty needless to say.
they had lou malnati’s and portillos late night (oh yea!)
so naturally kip fixed himself multiple plates of just meat.

I rented this Monique Lhullier dress for the wedding, and while I was initially like AH its YELLOW, I ended up loving it and the pockets were amaaaazing.  I could keep my phone in my pocket to take pictures during the wedding and I seriously want pockets for every dress I wear to a wedding now.
this was when I hadn’t steamed it yet so it was still really wrinkly!

{ monique huller dress }
this is the dress I really wanted to rent, but of course it wasn’t available. I love it.
{ jill stuart gown }

and then we capped the weekend off with a lady date seeing Trainwreck.
these seats make movies HEAVENLY.

it was SO GOOD.  hilarious.  and I cried, like, a lot which I definitely wasn’t expecting.
but it was so funny.

:: monday things ::
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend 🙂
I am feeling under the weather (its like a never-ending cycle the last few months of sickness!) so don’t have too much to share.

I saw this on pinterest and can’t get over how cute it is.
how smart to use your monogrammed wax seal to decorate some sweets?
I need to do this! Something does exist that I never thought to monogram!

It was finally HOT HOT this weekend and it was glorious.
I wore old, go to’s all weekend : silk joie dresses.  the best things in the world to sweat your ass off in.
this dress has paid for itself a dozen times over.
nordstrom rack always has great sale items of joie, like this open back silk dress
{joie open back navy silk dress}  70% off + under $100

from the nordstrom sale, the layered sweater for fall arrived and I absolutely love it.
it is SO SOFT and yummy
{ layered shirttail sweater }  under $60 with sale!
I didn’t know if I should do the S or XS, I’m wearing the XS and fits perfectly, still has tiny bit of a loose fit, so it runs TTS or order your smaller size.

unfortunately, the striped Topshop sweatshirt dress arrived and I absolutely hated it!
The fit was way too big (I normally have the opposite issue with topshop, normally their clothes run very small) and it was super boxy, super long, and super unflattering.  so back it went.

and good news for ryan shnozling,
InStyle rounded up the best blotting papers for oily skin just in time for tonights episode of the bachelorette!
