lusts for the week…….

First I wanted to share one my favorite finds.
You know I love an open back, so when I saw this sweater I couldn’t resist.
It is one of the softest things I have ever felt – nothing itchy about it; it feels like a cashmere blanket. Seriously.
In Chicago it’s cold for months on end, and it gets hard to dress up but stay warm. This is the perfect way to stay warm, but show a bit of skin for a night out when it’s super cold.

and I have been LIVING in these booties. They are so comfortable and so cute – I even survived a night out in NYC wearing them with no blisters or problems!

We need to start with the most important item that is likely to sell out fast.
This pill bottle purse really makes a statement.

My apologies for my lack of posts the last two days!

I flew to NYC to surprise one of my best friends from college for her surprise engagement on Sunday!

It was a quick Saturday-Monday trip, but we had so much fun and I’m so lucky I was able to be there.

It was an incredible weekend with quite an incredibly awful head start….We hopped in our uber for our 33 minute ride to the hotel. We had the worst car experience in our lives as our uber completely ignored us and the GPS and went flying past the exit for the Queensborough Bridge and straight into standstill traffic.

As in, we had a a FOUR HOUR uber ride from the airport that didn’t get us any further than the exit of the Midtown Tunnel. Not a single exit point anywhere and nowhere to go after he passed that exit point.

It. Was. A. Nightmare. That’s the short version of all of it. but seriously, if you know me, you know I have the bladder of a 5 year old and I may have cried.

We also laughed a lot. lots of highs and lows in that damn car.

but it definitely did get touch and go there around the 3 hour mark, laughing one second and then a legit tear behind my sunglasses moments later.

When we got to the toll part, I saw stairs in the distance and wanted to get out and grab our suitcases and run but there were cop cars everywhere and the “toll cop” said it was illegal to exit the car on the freeway.
if it weren’t for my friends, I would have been out of that car and arrested I’m sure.

I swear…. this was what I was envisioning.

After those four hours, we sprinted from the uber to the nearest restroom. And then walked for about an hour straight West, and then we were finally able to get another cab to take us up to the hotel, where at a little after 7 pm… the hotel room wasn’t ready so we got ready in the tiny bathroom in the gym 🙂

But I did love our hotel and at this point we had been able to go the bathroom and were standing so we really didn’t care.

We missed our window entirely for surprising our friend Saturday, so we waited until Sunday morning after her boyfriend had already proposed and the group was getting ready for the JDRF Walk for Type 1 Diabetes that she participates and fundraises for every year – and it ended up being perfect!
It was a much better surprise than if we had seen her Saturday, so it all happens for a reason 🙂

The walk went over the Brooklyn Bridge to Brooklyn which I had never done before and I loved it – it was beautiful. The weather was absolutely perfect for us too.

and then we headed to one of their favorite bars to watch football and celebrate with everyone for the rest of Sunday.

She is sooooo happy and I am so happy we were able to go be there for part of her special weekend.

as I was midway through this post on Tuesday, I went to go to my mom’s storage unit to see what we can use in our new house, and my car broke down.

And 15 calls to tow companies later, I found someone willing to tow it. 4 hours later, no one had come. It’s just not my week with cars apparently.

…. and yes, I realize in the grand scheme of things neither of these car incidents matter. but in the moment all I can think is SON OF A NUTCRACKER.

I’m on my way back there again this morning to wait for someone, and hoping my car didn’t get towed by someone else from the parking lot 😀

Moving day yesterday went fairly well; there were some glitches, but no rain so can’t ask for more when moving.

Even if I’m not the one doing the heavy furniture lifting, damn is it exhausting!

The biggest hiccup : all of the screws for our bed frames and headboards are missing. So that’s nice. So not a single bed is put together. Of course my husband is traveling. He somehow has been gone for all moving activities: from packing up Chicago to moving into the storage unit to moving some things into my moms to now the new home. He is having fun in Viva Las Vegas while all of this occurs. I mean, yes, he’s working, but still…… gotta give him crap where I can because I am jealous I’m not sleeping in a hotel bed with blackout shades and non-stop nightlife at my fingertips!

So, none of the beds are together and we are missing the legs for several pieces of furniture, and also for our main sofa which luckily we are changing out for another one as we speak. We couldn’t even sit on the couch because it was angled from missing legs.

I didn’t even bother opening any “Fragile” boxes yesterday…. yesterday’s movers commented too many times about how horribly everything was moved from Chicago so I just couldn’t bear it. I’m heading back over today to assess the damages.

But it’s okay because there are instant solutions for all of these things.

At this point it’s just funny.
and I am lucky enough to be able to say “ugh I’m done” and just go back to my Mom’s with a clean bedroom and bed (and fully stocked DVR) which I realize we are so fortunate to be able to do. Our previous moves were all a one day move-out and move-in to the new place situation, and it is the most exhausting day EVER.

PLUS these moves involve Chick-fil-A for lunch 🙂

My life motto is : “When you can’t Wine, Waffle Fry.”

I’m now accepting offers for motivational speaking based on that motto alone.

Today I’m sharing a few favorites of mine lately!

Both are total steal’s price wise, and both can be worn now and later, dressed up and dressed down!

I saw this swing dress and knew it would be perfect for summer and also for later in the cooler months.

I wanted to try out the deep olive color for fall and I love it.

It’s great now with sandals or layered up for fall with booties and a jacket and scarf.

These peep-toe booties are my absolute favorite, favorite purchase for fall.

They look just as good with dresses as they do with jeans.

This silk tank is the perfect staple, especially when you feel like you have nothing to wear or don’t know what the heck to put on.

You can dress it up or down, it is loose but fitted enough to define your shape, and has the higher cut in front with a bit longer in the back. LOVE. I again wanted this olive color for fall, but it comes in every color of the rainbow.

I’m excited to wear it when its cold with my leather leggings and black booties.
